OPENING Petite Miniature Textiles 2026 & Nothing is certain, said The Curtain

Friday 26 June, 5.30pm
Wangaratta Art Gallery

Join us to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions Petite Miniature Textiles 2026 and Nothing is certain, said The Curtain by Sydney based artist Ali Noble.

Hear from Petite Miniature Textiles 2026 guest curator Cara Johnson, artist and previous Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award finalist on her selection and this year's theme of 'in the detail’.

Petite Miniature Textiles 2026 is a biennial exhibition showcasing innovative small-scale textile practice from across Australia. This year, 46 works by 34 artists and groups were selected.

Nothing is certain, said The Curtain reimagines the legacy of modernist designer Lilly Reich, through textile installation, sculpture and moving image. Against the backdrop of modernist architecture‘s implied certainty and stability, Lilly Reich’s curtains disrupted fixed boundaries, suggesting adaptability and ephemerality.

Refreshments will be served and the event will feature live music by Galen College student Spencer Hayward. Book your free ticket now at wangarattaartgalelry.com.au

NOW OPEN Nothing is certain, said The Curtain by Ali Noble.

The exhibition reimagines the legacy of modernist designer Lilly Reich, co-creator of Vila Tugendhat in Brno, Czech Republic with Mies van der Rohe in 1929. Against the backdrop of modernist architecture's implied certainty and stability, Lilly Reich’s curtains disrupted fixed boundaries, suggesting adaptability and ephemerality.

By reconfiguring Reich’s curtains and furniture, artist Ali Noble reflects on Reich’s legacy of playful and innovative design, a tribute to her overlooked contribution.

There's still a few places left in our WORKSHOP Smartphone Meets its Ancestor with John Brooks 📱

Saturday 27 June, 1pm
Wangaratta Art Gallery

Join us here at the gallery for a workshop inspired by our current exhibition, Petite Miniature Textiles 2026.

Basic handloom weaving relies on horizontal (weft) threads intersecting with vertical (warp) threads. Through a series of sliding door moments of invention and iteration, the weaving loom evolved into the computer, which lead us to the smart phone.

In this engaging workshop, participants will be guided through a basic weaving exercise to create a small piece of fabric, using textile waste and returning their smartphones to their original function as a tool for weaving.

LAST CHANCE to see Affording Truth before it closes with us on 21 June.

Visitors in the north will get the chance to see the exhibition when it travels Wagga Wagga Art Gallery in NSW from 8 August to 18 October and at Redcliffe Art Gallery in QLD from 21 November 2026 - 6 March 2027 🛻

Affording Truth explores how we perceive and navigate truth in an era of global uncertainty, using the framework of affordances - the qualities of objects or environments that suggest or enable particular actions and interactions. Perceived, false or hidden, affordances are everywhere and key to how humans navigate the world.

Affording Truth is a collaborative curatorial project between Wangaratta Art Gallery, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and City of Moreton Bay Galleries curated by Rachel Arndt, Dr Lee-Anne Hall, and Hannah Williamson. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
