At our Bass Lab events we always aim to have a line up of DJ's who bring different styles to the mix so we give you a full spectrum Drum & Bass experience.
Since its emergence from the Rave scene in the early 90's Drum and Bass has fractured into many different subgenres. To the untrained ear it may be difficult to differenciate one from another so we will be breaking down each subgenre with 5 examples.
JUMP UP
Jump Up emerged as as a subgenre of Jungle and Drum and Bass and was characterized by its high-energy beats, chopped-up breakbeats, and heavy basslines.
During the mid to late 1990s, Jump Up experienced a surge in popularity in clubs and raves with DJs and producers experimenting with new sounds and techniques to create tracks that would get crowds jumping.
Thanks in part to pioneering artists and labels such as DJ Hype, G***a Records, and True Playaz. Tracks like DJ Hype’s “Roll The Beats” and G***a Kru’s “Super Sharp Shooter” produced by DJ Zinc became anthems of the genre.
Jump Up has gone through different waves in popularity, with a second surge in the mid 2000s with artist llike Hazard , Turno and Dj Guv and on to today and artists like Mozey and Hedex
