I did this painting of my mum for her birthday. My mum is a single mum who raised 3 kids on her own. Growing up I thought she was abit harsh, but now I am an adult with 3 children of my own, I think of her everyday and am in total awe of her resilience in raising us. She is very modest and would never talk her self up but I think she is such a strong woman, and I’m so proud of her. When I was 19 I said to my mum “ there’s something I need to tell you” she replied with “your pregnant” I was so worried she would be mad but she didn’t say much more about it and we spent the rest of the afternoon gardening. A week later she had already bought a cot and a baby play pen. She’s been one of my closest friends since.

I just finished this painting today, I started it about a year ago but kept loosing interest. This is how I feel as a plus size person. The two characters on the side to me represent society’s views towards people who are plus size. It feels like people are either mad at us or making fun of us.

This was a painting I did for a good friend of mine. She is strong, determined, kind and loving. She left school at 16 to have her first baby, she now has 5 kids who are the sweetest and she will be graduating university at the end of this year- the first ever in her family (I’m so proud/in awe of her)
