The next Artist and final artist to be featured at the Valla Expressions Art Show is well known local Valla Ceramist Lyn Walsh and the pioneer of the 10yr Valla Expressions Art Show. I have been fortunate to have had many years working with clay. Starting my ceramics in Sydney, then moving with my family to the Nambucca Valley in 1983, I have set up a many studio spaces. Wheel throwing is my area of expertise. Such a thoroughly engaging process, as I loose myself in the creating, searching for new ways to make my pieces. I am basically self taught with 4 years at Coffs harbour TAFE, working closely with fellow artists. This was a great “sharing of ideas”. So much was learned during this time, giving me confidence to exhibit my work. Raku firing technique captures my imagination, and I have been exploring and fine tuning it. The results are dramatic, producing suitable pieces for exhibitions.
My work has been shown at:
Nexus Gallery Bellingen(highly commended in Members Art Prize 2016)
Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery, Gladstone
Tree O Gallery, Repton
Nambuca Valley Art Exhibition (winner of open craft section 2015)
Matilda Street Gallery, Macksville
The Art Space Urunga (including annual Small Sculpture Prize)
Coastal Claymakers annual exhibitions
Valla Expressions Exhibition, Valla Beach
Gallery CC, Macksville
Dorrigo Railforest Gallery
What a privilege to have had to opportunity to work with the amazing medium of clay. I will continue to do so, for as long as it keeps on speaking to me.

The next artist featured in the Valla Expressions Art Show 2026 is Chris Hewgill (Hewysurf Photography). I’m an ocean and surf artist photographer with a 40-year background in creating coastal art. The next Artist featured in the Valla Expression Art Show is Master Woodworker and Artist Steve Ball. I work in a variety of timbers and mediums salvaging timber from across the Valley with my many rural contacts. My art reflects the beauty of the timber and I follow the grain, allowing the timber to dictate the piece I’m working on. Mango, Australian Cedar, Camphor Laurel, Orange, Huon Pine, Hoop Pine and Mahogany are just a few of these mediums that I create timber art pieces from….

The next Artist featured in the Valla Expressions Art Show 2026 is well known local photographer Carol Easton. I've worked my way through a number of mediums and have eventually settled with photography in many varied forms. These can involve a straight photo, but with a twist of some sort, as I'm not one for the ordinary. A coat of encaustic wax on a photo is another technique, which may then be carved into creating a different texture. A favorite is printing my photos on vellom paper, then layering prints in a suitable order and taping to a window to re photograph. This creates a multi layered look giving greater dimension. Always with a camera slung around my neck I tend to be an opportunist rather than setting up and waiting for a shot to happen. Please take the time to look at some of art...

The next artist to be featured at the Valla Expressions Art Show is well known textile artist Julie Collins. Originally from London, I relocated to Valla Beach from Alice Springs seven years ago having lived in the bush for 35 years. My mother was an upholsterer and I grew up surrounded by luxurious fabrics , the offcuts of which I turned into doll and teddy clothes. To their horror, my daughters were always in matching outfits and I started quilting and patchworking with the leftover pieces. After selling my catering business, I worked for a friend in The Aboriginal Fabric Gallery in Todd Mall, Alice Springs. Instead of payment, I would make articles for the shop to sell and so Table Art was born I have always admired the desert designs and colours of the aboriginal artists, and now have the time to experiment with them due to my passion for sewing. The fabrics that I use are predominately central desert designs but I have adapted them to fit in with the beach hues and lifestyle. All of my pieces are unique and simply evolve as I progress with them. I am excited to showcase some of my work again.
Cheers Julie Collins

The next artist to be featured at the Valla Expression Art Show 2026 is Ceramist Graeme Jessen. I have only taken up ceramics recently, encouraged by wife, Lyn, a long time ceramic artist. Hand building and raku firing has captured my imagination. Each piece is a one of a kind. I spend considerable time, drawing a template to full scale. This is the most exciting part of the process, as I love form. Taking great care in the building, paying attention to detail is the next step. Finally the firing in a raku kiln is both nerve racking and thrilling and wow!! a new piece is born. I have successfully exhibited in Coastal claymakers annual exhibitions, Nexus Gallery, Bellingen, Nambucca Heads bi annual exhibitions, Valla Expressions exhibition, Valla Beach and The Art Space, Urunga.
