Travertine is very popular material in Roman buildings because of its abundance in this area, and it’s used extensively both as building material and interiors finish.
The Ara Pacis Museum is a wonderful space where its contemporary architecture protects and highlights its 2000 years old contents.
The way travertine is used here is also very interesting, Vein-cut and Cross-cut placed next to each other…

Painting the brick facade of our house not only turned out to be way cheaper than rendering, but it also allowed the pattern of the brick work to support the original character of the house.

To create a successful interior, I love having an idea in mind as a guide, but I always keep my options open… because it’s exciting to discover the unexpected.

Especially in a well-stocked tile showroom, where new options just keep coming! And yes, I really am as excited as I look every time another tile is offered that could fit my brief. 😄

Sometimes, creating a feature wall isn’t about introducing a bold new colour or pattern. Sometimes adding texture is all that’s needed.

In this ensuite the hero wall is behind the vanity and where the shower meets the corner. Rather than changing to a completely different tile, I used the very same tile as the floor, just in a smaller size and different format. The result is a space that feels cohesive, while the change in tile format creates subtle texture and visual interest. It’s a simple design trick that adds character without making the room feel busy.

Often, successful design choices are the ones you barely perceive.

Bookcases have come a long way from simply storing books. One of the ongoing trends we spotted at Milano Design Week 2026 was shelving that becomes architecture in its own right. These pieces don’t just hold objects... they become sculptural statements that affect the entire room.

Metal, either painted or brushed steel, featured strongly, bringing a lighter, more refined feel than the industrial look we’ve seen in past years. Bold colours are making their way onto shelving too, but another detail I loved was the clever use of integrated lighting. Hidden LEDs softly illuminate books and treasured objects, adding warmth and atmosphere while making the shelving itself feel almost like an art installation. It’s a reminder that great design isn’t only about what you display, but also about how you frame it.
