Step up or step out invites and challenges observers to be an active contributor in protecting Lutruwita/Tasmania’s unique and pristine natural environment in the face of a rapidly evolving climate crisis.

The artist’s use of encaustic painting allows observers to step up and immerse themselves within the Lutruwita/Tasmanian wilderness, inspired by the landscapes outside of Ross, and take responsible for it’s security and longevity. The piece also asks observers to step out and take creative action, drawing their attention to the diverse environment through vivid, striking colours in the face of a dark and uncertain future.

Having lived in Lutruwita/Tasmania for nearly ten years as a nurse, the artist formed a deep connection to the exceptional land and waters; from the brutality of coastlines to the vibrant rainforests. Ensuring its purity is of great importance to the artist. Step up or step out brings Bob Brown’s vision for living harmoniously with the earth through sensible and real sustainability to life.
