Who is Josh Layne?

/ Josh Layne has been called a ‘harp genius’ and a ‘consummate musician’. He has performed extensively across , the , , , and and has been praised for both his virtuosity and the sensitivity of his playing.

Josh has recorded 4 albums of solo harp music, including his 2013 CD “Passage: music for solo harp” which features three of his original compositions for harp. Recent projects include a revival of Bochsa’s long dormant “Concerto No. 1 in D minor” with a performance at the World Harp Congress in Wales in July 2022.

“It’s Tuesday… It’s Harp Tuesday!” Born out of a passion for teaching, Josh’s biweekly YouTube series “Harp Tuesday” launched in 2010. Harp Tuesday covers all aspects of playing the harp – from your first lesson to in-depth looks at advanced music. With 300+ episodes and over 3 , Harp Tuesday is an amazing resource for harpists all over the world.

Based on themes from Weber’s 1823 opera, this overture is admired for its dramatic contrasts and vivid orchestration. It blends heroic brilliance with a mysterious central section, showcasing Weber’s pioneering early Romantic style.
2️⃣ — Harp Concerto in E flat major, Op. 74

Written in 1938 with technical collaboration from harpist Ksenia Erdely, this concerto combines classical clarity with lush Romantic colour. Its lyrical first movement, graceful variations, and sparkling finale highlight the harp’s expressive and virtuosic range — beautifully brought to life by soloist Josh Layne, an internationally recognised Canadian harpist known for his nuanced interpretations and captivating stage presence.
3️⃣ — Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73
Composed during a peaceful summer retreat in 1877, this symphony is often described as Brahms at his most pastoral. Its warm, flowing melodies and radiant orchestral writing culminate in a jubilant finale that feels like sunlight breaking through.
