Winter in Rockingham©️
By Raymond P Reid

Walk into a cafe, after a long day's roam,
Noise of the patrons, a deafening tone,
Work chums in clusters, their stories untold,
Another group of six, memories unfold.
It's the first day of winter, nature on the prowl,
Dark by six, the cold winds start to howl,
It's the first day of winter, the skies look mean,
Storms approach, a change unforeseen.
Eating pizza alone, on my birthday's cheer,
Bartenders working hard, to pay off their fear,
Groups under umbrellas, in Rockingham's grace,
The chef's turning out grub, with a smile on his face.
It's the first day of winter, nature on the prowl,
Dark by six, the cold winds start to howl,
It's the first day of winter, the skies look mean,
Storms approach, a change unforeseen.
The day was hot, 26 degrees,
But evening brings a chill, carried by the breeze,
It's a Saturday, a shift in the scene,
From summer's end, to winter's keen.
Stories of Mother England, exchanged with grace,
Strangers becoming friends, in this lively place,
A moment of silence, in the middle of the crowd,
Reflecting on the journey, feeling somewhat proud.
It's the first day of winter, nature on the prowl,
Dark by six, the cold winds start to howl,
It's the first day of winter, the skies look mean,
Storms approach, a change unforeseen.
So here in Rockingham, the seasons collide,
In a cafe warm, from the storm we hide,
The first day of winter, brings its own charm,
Embraced by the cold, yet feeling warm.
