🎨 ARTIST TALK | 4 OCTOBER

We’re excited to welcome artists Alison McDonald and Danish Quapoor to The Drill Hall Studio for a special artist talk on Sunday 4th October, 10–11am.

This is a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from two established Townsville artists about their creative practices, processes and experiences as artists working in regional Queensland.

Alison McDonald, the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards Art for Life winner, has been creating work in Townsville for more than 20 years, working across everything from jewellery to large-scale sculpture and installation.

She’ll be joined by fellow Townsville artist Danish Quapoor, whose multidisciplinary practice spans textiles, ceramics and illustrative painting. Danish was also a finalist in the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards.

Whether you’re an artist, emerging creative, art lover or simply curious about what happens behind the artwork, this is a great chance to come along, listen, ask questions and connect with other people in our regional arts community.

📍Gold Coast

Blue Momentum is painted on site at the Gold Coast Broadwater. Crab Island is a mangrove Island located within the Broadwater which is home to hundreds of birds and marine life. I am fascinated by the paradox of high-rise development coexisting with this fragile ecosystem. On the day of painting, I was suddenly inundated by an array of sailboats, and a flock of birds. I was compelled to react by furiously, painting this unexpected momentum.
My art practice explores the dance of human toil and the environment. My art not only seeks to celebrate the colour and rhythms of the landscape, but also to advocate for a harmonious existence with nature.
