Townsville City Galleries is pleased to present a special Reconciliation Week edition of Art-box TOMORROW!

Join us for a storytime and art workshop with local artist, Bernadette Russell and her mother Desley Barba and celebrate culture and the arts.

Bernadette and Aunty Desley will deliver a storytime session based on the children’s book Sam’s Fishing Adventure by Bernadette’s daughter Monique Russell.

The story tells of Monique's grandfather Samat (Sam) Barba's adventures as a Torres Strait Islander boy with his father and sister on a fishing trip in the Torres Strait Islands. Then get creative and use seed pods to create a fishing boat just like the one in the story in this fun workshop for under 5’s!

Please note storytime starts at 10.30am, followed by the workshop.

Hey everyone! 😊 With the new school term approaching, I wanted to talk about my junior art class. 🎨 In our sessions, we blend holistic practices with art, allowing each student to set their own goals. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, we follow a project-based learning curriculum, encouraging creativity and individualized projects. We meet weekly to have fun, connect, and learn various art skills. At the end of the term, we showcase and sell our art at a market stall. Some of our students even create their own logos and stickers! Last week at the Strand markets, my students collectively earned $201!

Cost wise It's $250 for the entire term, with the first session free to see if it's a good fit. We're located in Oonoonba with only 3 spots left! Feel free to PM me if you're interested. Join us every Tuesday from 4:30-6pm for a session filled with healthy food and good vibes! 😊
