🩸Amniotic Sac Drum 🩸

This drum was grown for 9 months within a mothers womb. It once held a precious baby safely within its waters. And now, it is playing a gentle, rhythmic, yet familiar sound to baby and mum.

Made with both the amnion and the chorion (the two layers of the amniotic sac) just a few hours after birth.

The frame is made of Acacia wood.

I am now offering this service as part of my placenta honourings. ❤️🙏

I truly love honouring, caring for, and working with a woman’s placenta.

This may be through art, keepsake creation, ceremony, encapsulation, or a weaving of all three.

Whatever you choose, there is magic in the choosing itself. You choose what nourishes you.

When you choose to honour your placenta, you may find you are honouring more than just her.

You may be tending to your bond with your baby.

Honouring your birth.

Or closing the chapter of the time when your baby grew in your womb.

How can the placenta hold so much energy?

I don't know for certain. But she does.

The placenta, the cord, and the sacs were your baby’s very first home.
Created by you, for your baby.

What are your options when you know that you want medical or midwifery care here in Townsville?
And how are these options different to each other?

Sorting through Google, websites, Instagram and Facebook groups can be exhausting and perhaps leave you even more confused.

With support from local midwives and with the women of our local community at heart and center, I have put together a document outlining what is available in Townsville in terms of medical and maternity care. This document gives no recommendations, just simply gives a clear overview of the medical and midwifery services available in Townsville.

A few weeks ago, I offered a mum who I'm supporting a few journal prompts.

Today, I have a little book. ❤️🌱

I am not adding another thing on your to-do-list. This is not something you "complete and hand in".

All it is, is an option. Perhaps it's not for you at all. Perhaps you will read a few questions and bring something up with your partner or support team. Perhaps you will write more than there are lines in the book. All of it is ok.

This book consists of groups of questions, divided in sections. Questions relate to things such as your own birth story, relationship to your body, fears and beliefs around birth, your coming birth and postpartum.
This is version one, and I look forward to building on this with time.

This book is all yours after it has been given to you, and never needs to be returned, shown or shared with anyone else, including myself.

I will be handing these out to mothers that I am supporting at birth. ❤️

The medical system’s disapproval of doulas is rooted in a need for control, a distrust in women's bodies and an inability to understand what women need and desire.

It shows how little space is made for the emotional, spiritual, and human needs of a mother.
⠀
Birth is not inherently a medical event. Neither is pregnancy or postpartum.
We might see it as a transformation, an expansion. An event that deserves presence, trust, respect, and care, every single time. Where bodily autonomy is essential. And sometimes there is also a need for medical assistance.

But it is never only about medical assistance.
⠀
Doulas hold that space, the one that medicine can’t quantify, but mothers feel the need for.

Our scope is completely different to the scope of the medical system.
The medical systems inability to understand the depths and nuances of the needs of mothers is one of the many different reasons mothers seek doulas.

Doulas have been a part of communities for a long time, and we will continue to be right here, for women.
