Krysten’s star on the rise after Cecil lands plonk
Innisfail trainer Krysten Allender is continuing to build an impressive
reputation as an astute horse woman after raw three-year-old Good One
Cecil landed a betting plunge at Cluden Park on Sunday.
Having his first start for Allender, the Invader gelding finished hard to
claim the Motti Midlife QTIS 3YO Mdn Hcp (1200m) for apprentice Fiona
Sandkhul after being backed from $21 to $7.
Good One Cecil is raced by owner-breeder Kris Thomas of Burgs
Racing who sent Good One Cecil to Allender after her success with his
promising galloper Mister Doobee.
“I got this horse (Good One Cecil) after his last run in Townsville and put
him straight in the paddock because there just wasn’t much of him. He
was a tiny little baby,” Allender said.
“I left him out for a good three months and have taken him slowly in his
work and he’s progressed really well.
“He’s come back double the size of what he was.

Pride produces another mighty win for Button
Northern Pride is fast becoming top trainer Tom Button’s all-time
favourite galloper after another lion-hearted win at Cluden Park on
Friday.
Button was rating the tough seven-year-old up there with his former top
galloper The Tax Accountant after he landed his 14 th career win in the
Mind Over Matter Open Hcp (1400m).
“I always say The Tax Accountant was my favourite horse. He was a
horse that always showed up and went to town (Brisbane) and won. This
horse has to be right up there with him,” Button said.
“Around the stable he knows he’s the man and thinks he’s the boss. He
lets you know that he’s in charge.
“He’s won 14 now and he had only won one race when I got him. He
was an Archer Park horse who came out of Tony Gollan’s.
“When I moved to Bowen I bought him and he’s been a great horse to
me.”
Northern Pride, burdened with heavy weights since his 2024 Cleveland
Bay Hcp win, relished the 3kg claim of apprentice Samantha Pointon on
Friday.
