Frequently Asked Questions:

Who are the TUGgers? TUG is the Toowoomba Ukulele Group; We are a community of ukulele enthusiasts who meet once a fortnight to play and enjoy music. We welcome all ages, skill levels and musical abilities. Please note that children need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. What music do you play? A huge variety - from songs off the top 40 countdown, through to g

olden oldies, and everything in between. We also love taking requests and trying new stuff, so if you have a favourite song in mind don't hold back! When/where do you meet?
6:30 to 8.30pm on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. Venue: Dr Price Rooms, Little St, Toowoomba. I think I want to come along to a session. Where do I find details? Please send us an email, or a fb message and we will keep an eye out for your arrival. I'm interested in some private ukulele lessons, can you help? Most people find they're able to pick it up quite easily in the group situation (yes, even absolute beginners), and there is a vast selection of online resources to help supplement this that we can point you in the right direction for. Beginners' courses are offered periodically by TUG - for more information please contact us at [email protected]

We'd like to invite TUG to perform at our next event, do you do bookings? Absolutely! We can provide some ukuleles and music for your next function, as a relaxed and interactive performance - we encourage audience participation wherever possible.

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉

2026 is the year the Newkulele Festival evolves into something MORE — more instruments, more community, more music!

The Newcastle ukulele scene has always been built on connection, and this year we’re expanding that spirit in a BIG way. While the festival will still be proudly uke-heavy, we’re opening the door to a wider range of instruments, workshops, and performances.

Ever thought about trying African drumming, marimba, brass, or percussion? This could be your year to dive in and experience something new.

At its heart, community music is participatory, inclusive, and social. It brings people of all ages and skill levels together to create music, breaking down barriers and fostering connection. It’s about empowerment, accessibility, and making music for everyone — no matter your background or experience.

The 2026 Newkulele Festival will celebrate all of this, alongside fantastic performances, hands-on workshops, and opportunities for both groups and individuals to take the stage.

Planning to perform? Make sure you register. Just keen to join in? Save the dates and come along for the fun!
