Choirbolical is a non-auditioned, SATB community choir, based in Toowoomba, QLD. We were founded in 2002 by renowned educator, Dr James Cuskelly, as an ensemble open to all those who love to sing. We are currently conducted by Morgan Chalmers - a talented musician and teacher of music. Our truly inspiring past musical directors include Matt Collins, Astrid Jorgensen of pub choir fame, Carla Trott,
Margaret Muller, and Tess Laird. Choirbolical meets on the first and third Tuesday evenings of each month (and where applicable, the 5th Tuesday of the month). We rehearse from 7.00pm-8.30-pm, at De Molay House, 90 Margaret Street, Toowoomba. COVID safe guidelines are followed for rehearsals. Our repertoire is wide and varied, including: Australian music, canons, world music, jazz, classical, spirituals, and contemporary music. Our conductor, Astrid Jorgensen, also likes to use us as guinea pigs for her own original choral compositions. Some of our most challenging repertoire has included singing Indian Tala, Gaelic, TV themes - and in 2017 we will learn music in Icelandic, as well as Hindi sanskrit! There will be the occasional song in English, to keep everybody happy. Each financial member of the choir is provided with music to rehearse from, however we primarily learn by rote in our rehearsals. Our website also contains downloadable practice tracks for members to learn, and practice their music independently at home. We primarily sing in SATB - Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass. Our repertoire does also include canons, rounds and unison work. Our aim is to enjoy making music together and under the Music Director’s guidance we continually learn new, and inspiring repertoire. We believe that music should be exciting and challenging for everybody, and we enjoy the journey of learning new pieces. Great friendships are at the core of our group - expect a lot of laughter at rehearsals, and ensure you can make it to our shared meals. If the singing doesn't inspire you to join Choirbolical, the food spreads certainly will. Come along to a rehearsal and see if we are the choir for you! We welcome singers of any ability or experience. Just be prepared to laugh and learn!
