Monty & I had a fantastic morning sharing the joy of birdwatching and the fun of cartooning at The Sweet Plot Bookshop. This is a wonderful bookshop and it is a MUST visit for the family.

Our little shop was jam packed this morning for the puppet show and cartooning workshop with Jason from 🤩

This Saturday! Looking forward to bring the joy of birdwatching to The Sweet Plot Bookshop and also share the joy of cartooning in a workshop after the show!

We are excited to host author, Jason Rodgers, in store on Saturday 7th of February! Author of “Did You Spot It? Noticing Birds Around Australia”, Jason will perform his puppet show with trusty sidekick, Monty the Platypus! 🙌

The puppet show will commence at 11am, and Jason will hold a cartooning workshop afterwards, for those who are interested! Simply bring your sketchpad and pencils, and Jason will lead the way ✍️

This is a free event, so come along and join us for some birdwatching fun! 🦅

Today I have been working on visual development for my new book.

It all starts in the sketch book, which then gets put onto the IPad, and then redrawn digitally with the Apple Pencil direct to screen.

It can be overwhelming sometimes all the choices you can make when you have full artistic control, but it’s a challenging and fun journey.

It all starts in the sketchbook!

My last book inspired the birdwatching puppet show… and now the puppet show is inspiring my next picture book.

After years of performing in kindergartens and childcare centres, Monty the birdwatching platypus has captured the imagination of lots of little birdwatchers. This new picture book is for that same age group and is based on the birdwatching song we sing at every visit.

Lots more drawing ahead of me in 2026! ✍️
