I am reluctant to post this on my business page, but needs must….

Hi friends, a while back I posted about my objection to a 24hr McDonalds being built on Toormina Rd. In the short space of a week our little action group rallied and as a result council received 81 submissions from residents objecting the proposal. We also received 1500 + signatures within 48 hrs for a petition objecting the proposal. At the Council meeting last year we were relieved that the majority of Councillors felt the same way we did. That they, like us, were not ‘anti-mcdonalds’ or ‘anti-business’ - more that they were locals themselves, and that this proposal just does not fit. For amenity reasons alone, this proposal does not make sense to the area.

BUT, McDonald’s is challenging Council’s decision and taking it to the Land and Environment Court 🥵AND this pesky pandemic has contributed to lost momentum and a subsequent drawn out process. ❗️So we must rally again - REALLY QUICKLY.❗️

We are now appealing to all those who submitted objections to council. YOU WERE HEARD, but now we need to hear from you again. This needs to be done by ❗️MONDAY 14th FEB ❗️as supporting evidence for the legal team representing Council. Things you can do!!!

☀️1. If you were one of the 81 people who wrote submissions (objection letters to Council) then we need you to CHECK YOUR INBOX. You should have received an email from Pikes & Verekers Lawyers inviting you to provide evidence to inform the court of your concerns (currently they only have received a fraction of these!) This can simply be what you have already written in your original letter, though you may add any additional information. The lawyers will guide you with this process. If you can not access the email, please get in touch with us via our page Local Action Group 2452 and we’ll support you.

For those not aware as yet, the ceramics side of The Art Dept. has branched into Haus Of Clay] and is stronger than ever.

This has been made possible by my friend and now business partner Holly Adamson. She has opened our new studio in Coffs Harbour and is abolutely killing it.
I’m SO proud of her.
We signed the lease for the new studio on Christmas Eve. This would have been wild in any given year, but particularly so this year I think. What Holly has achieved in such a short period time is amazing.

Since opening Haus Of Clay] has been hugely popular with both workshops and classes. Thank you to all our folks who have followed us from The Art Dept. in Toormina; your loyalty, support and patience means the world.

And welcome to all the new muddy buddies joining the studio. Such an exciting time.

It’s been radio silence from me on here for an age, but seeing it is literally the end of the holidays I guess it’s time I broke it! If you’re wondering what’s been happening over at The Art Dept. there is no quick or simple answer….

I personally have done very little other than managing small humans (and truth be told I was just burnt out I think? 😬🤷‍♀️). I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do and how I will do it in terms of art stuff…
But alas!!
There are some amazing and beautiful changes happening that are being driven by some other amazing women (and where you’ll find me on the sidelines 🤚)

The Art Dept. is no longer at 14 Toormina Rd.🥺 I will miss this little house-come-studio that was once my great aunt and uncle’s (Pat & George). I just LOVED all my classes there and everyone I had the greatest of pleasures in meeting. However, it was a necessary change, and with change other beautiful realisations are made possible. And so with great pride and excitement I can announce that Supporting First Nations Women] now have a permanent base at 14 Toormina Rd 💛

This is such a wonderful charity that is close to my heart. It has so much life, love and purpose. Run by a beautiful and passionate team who have worked SO hard to make a difference to the lives of girls and women across Australia. And what a difference they have made. If you are not following Supporting First Nations Women] yet, make it a priority and read up on all the good work they do and how you can support it. How lucky Toormina is to have a charity of this ilk in our community?

And let’s not forget news! So much going on over there in the new space with Holly running the show. Check out the insta page for all the info but I will post more about that tomorrow!
