Behind every product is a story, a passion, and a person who has put their heart into what they create.

Throughout our Meet the Maker series, we’ve been celebrating some of the talented makers and small businesses whose products make Uniquely Toodyay so special.

From DromeDairy’s camel milk products and the beautiful pottery of Earth Sculptures, to the craftsmanship of Leadlight Studio and the handmade soaps from Natural Intentions, each brings something unique to our shelves.

We’re proud to provide a space where local makers can share their work, their creativity and the stories behind their businesses. Every purchase is an opportunity to support someone’s passion, celebrate local talent and contribute to the small businesses that make our community what it is.

Thank you for supporting local and for being part of the story behind every small business. ✨

🫧 MEET THE MAKER | NATURAL INTENTIONS SOAP

Meet Gina, the creative mind behind Natural Intentions Soap!

Gina’s journey into soapmaking began when she first moved to the Toodyay area. Wanting to find a way to work around her family while earning an income, she decided to turn her existing knowledge of skincare into something of her own.

She started small with melt-and-pour soaps, but as people became curious about her creations and started asking questions, Gina found herself wanting to learn more. Before long, she took the leap into making soap from scratch, discovering a whole new world of techniques, colours and creative possibilities along the way.

What makes soapmaking special to Gina is the opportunity to experiment with colour. She loves creating intricate swirls and discovering new techniques, with plenty of patience, practice and trial and error helping her develop her own style.

Having recently decided to focus more on her soapmaking, Gina continues to explore her creativity through her handmade creations, each reflecting the time and care she puts into her craft.

We love getting to share the stories of the talented people behind the products at Uniquely Toodyay. Every maker has their own reason for starting, their own journey and their own little things that make what they do special, and we’re so glad Gina is part of our community. 💜

Next time you visit, take a moment to discover Gina’s creations and support the passion behind them.

MEET THE MAKER | EL CABALLO LEADLIGHT STUDIO ✨

Sometimes, a creative passion begins with the simplest of ideas.

For Graham, the story of El Caballo Leadlight Studio begun nine years ago when he and his wife owned Pecan Hill B&B. Looking for a way to fill some empty wall spaces in the guest rooms, Graham decided to learn the art of stained glass.

What started as a practical project soon blossomed into something much more, a lasting passion for working with glass and creating pieces that bring colour, character and light into a space.

Today, Graham lives in Wundowie, where he has his own studio behind El Caballo. From here, he creates both leadlight and laser-etched glass pieces, combining different techniques to produce distinctive designs.

His work includes colourful leadlight suncatchers, featuring everything from intricate patterns to beautiful birds, butterflies and decorative designs. Each piece offers its own way to bring a little colour into your home, particularly when sunlight shines through the glass and brings those colours to life. ☀️

Alongside the pieces he creates for sale, Graham can also make items to order, giving customers the opportunity to request something more personal.

It’s a lovely reminder that sometimes the things we start simply out of necessity can grow into something we never expected — and that a little curiosity can lead to a whole new creative journey.

You can discover a selection of Graham’s leadlight suncatchers and glass creations at Uniquely Toodyay 🩶

MEET THE MAKER | EARTH SCULPTURES 🤎

For Paula Greenway, clay is more than a material to work with. It’s a way to bring imagination to life, one carefully shaped detail at a time.

For more than 20 years, Paula has been creating distinctive, handmade pottery, developing a style filled with character, texture and a touch of whimsy. From expressive faces and woodland-inspired figures to her much-loved sculptures, her work celebrates the beauty of creating something by hand.

Nature plays a central role in Paula’s creative process. Drawn to earthy tones and organic textures, she embraces the individuality of each piece, shaping every detail by hand rather than relying on moulds. Her signature owl sculptures, for example, are built and textured individually, with each one developing its own expression and personality.

Based in the peaceful countryside of West Toodyay, Paula has created more than a collection of pottery. Alongside her artwork, she welcomes people into her studio to experience the creative process for themselves, sharing her knowledge through relaxed, hands-on workshops where beginners are encouraged to experiment, explore and discover what they can create.

It’s this combination of creativity, craftsmanship and connection to nature that makes Earth Sculptures such a wonderful part of Toodyay’s creative community.

You can discover Paula’s handcrafted creations and more at Uniquely Toodyay!
