Oh what a night! Van Gogh definitely brought out the stars on Wednesday night . Everyone left with a twinkle in their eye.

Week 2 of exploring the Post Impressionists let us in on a sneaky little peek into the romantic notion of the misunderstood starving artist. Vincent van Gogh was literally the poster child for dying for one’s art.

Did you know that Van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime? Once upon a time, he paid his doctor with a portrait. Dr. Gachet promptly used this painting to cover a hole in his chicken coop (so the folklore goes). Eeeeek! Today, this painting is worth $82M. Double Eeeeek!

We played with acrylic paint and watercolour pencils. We checked out masterpieces of still life, landscapes and portraiture. Slides, short videos and tall tales were shared and analysed.

Next week we continue our delve into Post Impressionism and party at the Moulin Rouge with Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

Thank you to Heidelberg Historical Society for having us sit in their most lovely exhibition about the travels and people: Australian Impressionists of the Heidelberg School at the Old Court House in Heidelberg. We will be back there on Sunday 7th Decemeber 2-4.30pm. Take a visit and be in awe of this historical building and the information it holds. See you there!

Thank you for the continual splitting of sides and the joy of seeing your confidence bloom.

The gorgeous Kate came to Painted Pause with the old adage, “I don’t have a creative bone in my body.” Time and time again, the so-called non-creatives cry wolf! Yes, cry wolf. This belief, I’m sorry, is pure codswollap.

Do you decide what to wear each morning? Do you add delicious meal ideas to your shopping list? Do you know someone so well that you can figure out the perfect gift for their birthday? Oh Lordy, you have problem-solved these mundane moments with your imaginativeness, your ingenuity and of course your resourcefulness. Psst, these are fancy pants words for creativity. Your glorious, wonderful, insightful creativity. Like any other muscle, creativity requires exercise to grow and strengthen.

Think of our art classes as your swimming coach for Vic Swim (is that still a thing?). We are your floaties, guiding and supporting you until you feel the confidence to splash out on your own. We adore the time we watch our guests bounce up and down on their creative diving board. We cheer and swell with pride as you come up for air and know you have smashed it! There is no right way, only wading through the shallow end to the next exciting challenge.

Now listen closely. Come a bit closer, closer. Maybe not that close. Here is the secret… EVERY SINGLE SOUL on this planet is creative. Yes… I am looking at you, my dear friend.

“Palette and Pint” art classes are based at Brewry in Thornbury, Melbourne. A funky gem of a place to reintroduce yourself to your old matie Creativity.

Painted Pause workshops share easy art TIPS, TRICKS and fascinating TALES. While your brushes skid across the canvas, we will provide you with stories, videos and slides about artists at the top of their game. From Van Gogh to Matisse, you will debunk the myths, and see that they weren’t always creative superstars. They all started splashing around wearing floaties.

We are gee wiz, bubblegum, shooting star, 3 Ravens is the bestest bar, excited that our Post Impressionist Palette n Pint commences this Wednesday! We have all the tips, all the tricks and all the tales of what REALLY went on behind the canvas of the groundbreaking Post Impressionists. Some serious Ooo la, la.

Come one, come all. We cater for complete beginners to intermediate creative types. From not sure how to hold a paint brush, to I haven’t stretched my creative muscles in years. Don’t panic, we will do some warm-ups first. Feel free to explore the 3 Ravens menu for scrumptious bevies and food. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the stories as you sketch, paint or snip along with our slideshow.

So what do you do on your day off?
Even after teaching art all week at Painted Pause (in our magnificent Melbourne), it never gets old to feed the soul with a “Field trip” to the NGA! We traded our brushes for a plane ticket to Canberra. There we hung out with Cézanne, Picasso, Gauguin, Klee, Ludwig and even Monet. Just a few mates who know their way around a canvas. Hella fun! Can’t wait to share all we learnt about Post Impressionism with you (our new mates) in our art next class.

Is there such a thing as TOO much art? NEEEVER!
