In 1979 when The Moonshiners began playing regularly, I splurged on the best Australian-made acoustic guitar at the time - a Maton CW-80 dreadnaught made completely with Australian timber.

It has been my workhorse ever since doing over 1,000 gigs in its 47 years.

On taking it for a re-fret and service, Old Man Piper, the only one I trusted with it, suggested that like us all, it maybe deserved a relaxing retirement after all its hard work.

It has now been oiled and polished. It stands next to a new Cole Clark made with a mix of Australian, European and African timbers. Not the same but nice.

The Maton is telling the Cole Clark what to expect and recounting those smoke-filled gigs at the Governor's Pleasure and the Surveyor General. He talks of sweat and spilled Guinness.
The Clark laughs. He doesn't believe it.
