Whale watching season is in full swing on the Central Coast, and if you’ve visited Terrigal recently, chances are you’ve already caught sight of the humpback whales breaching just off the coast. The Skillion, a stone’s throw from KAB Gallery, offers one of the best whale-watching spots in Terrigal, giving ocean lovers a front-row seat to the annual Humpback whale migration. We colloquially refer it to our location as the “Humpback Highway”. It is a beautiful and inspiring vantage point. KAB Gallery artist, Kelly-Anne Love, is internationally loved for her watercolour paintings of whales. After the Storm is a presents a more contemplative side of the ocean. Soft, layered greys and cool blues share a moody, atmospheric scene, where the swell begins to settle after a an intense wave. There is a quiet strength within this work that reveals itself slowly to you when standing in front of it. With time, you will notice the detail within the rolling waves and shifting clouds in the sky. “Allegretto” oil on canvas 51x36cm was painted en plein air to capture the view over Middle Harbour from Seaforth.

This artwork was a 2026 FINALIST at the Mosman Rowers Art Prize and WINNER of 3rd Prize. The prestigious art prize was judged by Wendy Sharpe.
