A group of lovely ladies came along to the Starling’s Nest studio today for a special one of a kind workshop! My good friend Kathy showed everyone how to make beautiful jewellery and I ran my colour explosion silk workshop! As you’ll see everyone created gorgeous wearable art to take home!

Today we celebrate Mabo Day, which commemorates the life of Eddie Koiki Mabo and marks the anniversary of the historic 1992 Mabo decision.

Eddie Mabo was a Torres Strait Islander man who challenged the claim that his family’s traditional land was owned by the Crown. The High Court’s decision in Mabo v Queensland overturned that claim and set a precedent in Australian law for the recognition of Indigenous custodianship over their traditional land.

The decision also overturned the colonial concept of terra nullius, Latin for ‘nobody’s land’. At the time of European settlement of Australia, terra nullius was used to justify the British Crown’s claim on the land, as though it was previously unoccupied territory.

Sadly, Eddie Mabo died several months before the decision was handed down, though his legacy lives on.

I just spent a wonderfully creative morning with the beautiful people of Beyond Blindness again! This month everyone created gilded vessels. It was fantastic sticky messy creativity! 💖🐦‍⬛

Some photos from the opening this afternoon and a huge congratulations to all of the young artists who took part in the youth exhibition at Kapunda Community Gallery 💖🐦‍⬛ There’s so many wonderful pieces of art, all created by talented young artists from our local area. It was wonderful to be surrounded by my own students and their amazing families as well!

BIG NEWS!! Our Adult FUN program has just launched with regular art classes, creative workshops, interactive mystery dinners and monthly high tea art parties, in collaboration with The Starling's Nest!

Most of our events cater to kids and families, but this program is 100% for ADULTS (no kids allowed😏).

Pick up a copy from the front of BFF HQ or find a copy in businesses and visitor centres around Lyndoch, Gawler and the Barossa! 🗞️
