Have you ever wondered what it takes to go from creating in regional NSW to showcasing your work on the Country to Couture runway in Darwin?

Next week, we're sitting down for a yarn with Kylie Caldwell, who was part of the Women of the Rivers Collective at Country to Couture 2026.

Kylie will share her experience, the highlights, the challenges and what she learnt along the way.

If Country to Couture is something you've thought about applying for, this is a great chance to hear from someone who's been through the journey, ask questions and get inspired!

And for those supporting artists in their communities, it's an opportunity to learn how we can help create pathways for more regional NSW artists.

What does the journey from regional NSW to Country to Couture in Darwin really look like?

Join us for a special online yarn with Kylie Caldwell as she shares her journey to Country to Couture 2026, including her experience as part of the Women of the Rivers Collective.

Kylie will take us behind the scenes of the experience from preparing and getting work ready, to travelling from regional NSW, participating in Country to Couture and everything she learnt along the way.

This yarn is also about looking ahead to 2027 and beyond.

By sharing the opportunities, challenges and practical realities of her experience, Kylie will offer valuable insights for artists considering similar opportunities, as well as the people and organisations who support them.

Whether you're an artist, creative, arts worker, RADO, organisation or part of our wider network, this is an opportunity to hear directly from someone who has made the journey, ask questions and better understand what it takes to step onto a national platform like Country to Couture.

Calling First Nations fashion and textile designers and businesses across NSW!

Applications are now open for Tranche 3 of the Quick Response Fashion Grant Program.

Apply for up to $10,000 (excluding GST) to:
๐Ÿชข purchase essential fashion and textile equipment
๐Ÿ“ˆ undertake professional development opportunities

The program supports emerging fashion and textile practitioners to build skills, strengthen their practice and grow sustainable creative businesses. Dedicated funding is available for eligible First Nations applicants, helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers and businesses invest in their creative and professional development.

Applications are assessed monthly and funding is limited. Apply now and take the next step in growing your fashion or textile practice.

Most artists did not choose a creative career because they love bookkeeping, invoices, contracts and spreadsheets.

But when you sell your work or provide creative services, you are also running a small business and the business side helps protect your creative practice.

There are some things every artist should understand:

โœ”๏ธ What money is coming in and going out
โœ”๏ธ How your prices are calculated
โœ”๏ธ What you have agreed to in a contract
โœ”๏ธ When invoices and tax obligations are due
โœ”๏ธ Who owns the artwork and how it can be used
โœ”๏ธ Whether your business is actually making money

That does not mean you have to do everything yourself.

Bookkeeping, accounting, website maintenance, legal advice and some administration can be outsourced. The important thing is knowing enough to make informed decisions and check that the work is being handled properly.

Start with one simple system. Keep your receipts together, record every sale and expense, use an invoice template and set aside regular time for administration.

Good systems give you more freedom, not less because they leave you with more time and confidence to create. What's something you need help with to make the 'business' side easier?

LIGHTING UP THE MAIN STREET OF DENI! โœจ

What a night! Last night our Lighting Up Culture participants got to see all their hard work come to life, with their creations projected right in the heart of Deniliquin as part of the Spirit of the Muster Festival and Deni Ute Muster celebrations.

โœจThere was something pretty special about standing back and watching the main street of Deni light up with work created by local young people and community. ๐ŸŽฅโœจ

In just a few short days, our participants have gone from developing concepts and capturing footage around their community, to editing, setting up projectors, learning projection mapping and helping deliver a real public projection event.

We couldnโ€™t be prouder of them, they absolutely smashed it! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

And weโ€™re not finished yetโ€ฆ

โœจ Tonight is our final Lighting Up Culture Deni showcase at Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre!

Tonightโ€™s celebration will bring together our Lighting Up Culture projection showcase with a dance showcase from Phunktional and local dancers, bringing digital storytelling, projection, movement and community together for one big final night at Yarkuwa.

Itโ€™s going to be such a deadly way to finish off an incredible few days and give our participants, dancers, families and community the chance to come together and celebrate everything thatโ€™s been created.

A huge thank you to South West Arts, Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre, Western Riverina Arts, Miil Miil Productions, Edward River Council and the Deni Ute Muster for helping bring Lighting Up Culture to life in Deni.

MONDAY - DAY TWO โ€“ LIGHTING UP CULTURE DENI โœจ๐ŸŽฅ

Weโ€™re a day late with this one because we got a little caught up bringing Lighting Up Culture to lifeโ€ฆ and if you were at the Spirit of the Muster Festival tonight, or seen our video, youโ€™ve already had a sneak peek at what our participants have been creating! ๐Ÿ‘€โœจ

Yesterday was all about the behind-the-scenes work that goes into taking an idea and turning it into a large-scale projection.

It was about the scaffold and event set-up, setting up the projectors and learning how to video projection map the spaces ahead of our first event at the Spirit of the Muster Festival.

And seriously, how deadly has this crew been! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

In just a couple of days theyโ€™ve gone from learning about concept development, filming and editing to helping prepare and deliver a real projection event.

And theyโ€™re not preparing for just one event, theyโ€™re doing TWO!

After tonightโ€™s first projection, weโ€™re getting ready to do it all again for our Lighting Up Culture community showcase at Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre on Wednesday night. โœจ

So proud of what this crew has achieved already, how quickly theyโ€™ve picked up new skills and, most importantly, how willing theyโ€™ve been to just get in and have a go.

A huge thank you again to our Deni partners South West Arts Inc, Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge centre, Western Riverina Arts, Miil Miil Productions, Edward River Council and the Deniliquin Ute Muster for helping make it all happen.

โœจ LIGHTING UP CULTURE HAS OFFICIALLY KICKED OFF! โœจ

Yesterday we held our very first Lighting Up Culture workshop at Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre in Deniliquin, and what a way to start!

Facilitator Scott Baker introduced participants to concept development, videography and video editing, before everyone headed out around Yarkuwa and the surrounds to capture footage and put those new skills straight into practice.

Safe to say, they understood the assignment and absolutely smashed it out! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ We were blown away by what was created in such a short amount of time, and this is only the beginning.

We finished the day with a super quick test run of the projectors down at the Multi Arts Centre, where the participantsโ€™ work will come to life for our first public projection as part of the Spirit of the Muster Festival on Tuesday night, before we do it all again with a community showcase at Yarkuwa on Wednesday night.

A huge thank you to everyone helping us bring Lighting Up Culture to life in Deni โ€“ South West Arts Inc, Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge centre Western Riverina Arts, Miil Miil Productions, Edward River Council and the Deniliquin Ute Muster. Itโ€™s deadly to see so many organisations coming together to support this project, our participants and the sharing of local stories in a whole new way.
