Art Metal By Mark

Art Metal By Mark From my studio atop Tamborine Mountain, I transform repurposed cutlery into whimsical creatures, blending sustainability with intricate craftsmanship.

Inspired by origami and nature, each one-of-a-kind piece I create tells a story.

It's been a big week in the office... and by office, I mean the workshop. πŸ˜‚πŸ¦πŸŒ

Over the past week I've been busy creating W***y Wagtails, Pelicans, a Lyre-Bird, and a collection of curious little snails. Add in some new paint finishes, a few molten glass eyes, and the usual creative chaos, and it's safe to say the workshop has been earning its keep.

I thought I'd put together a little video of the latest flock... and the snails too... before they start finding new homes. ✨

It's always satisfying seeing them all together after they've spent weeks as spoons, forks, and random bits scattered across the workbench.

Do you have a favourite? 🀎

And if you'd like to see what odd little characters emerge from the workshop next, feel free to join the flock. 🐦

Everyone knows there's always one W***y Wagtail that likes being the centre of attention... ❀️🐦

Meet Ruby.

Finished in deep crimson and maroon tones with a soft pearl eye, she's full of personality from beak to tail. Speaking of tails, one of my favourite features on this piece is the decorative cutlery detailing that naturally forms her tail feathers. Rather than hiding where she came from, I thought it was worth celebrating. ✨

It's those little details that make working with recycled cutlery so much fun. Every piece has its own character before I even pick up a tool.

Ruby is now available and looking for a new perch to call home. ❀️

Meet Marlow. 🌾

This curious pelican has been finished in a warm sandy mustard colour with a striking eye featuring soft pink details that give him plenty of personality.

Made from recycled spoons and forks, Marlow carries a relaxed coastal feel, like he's spent his days wandering sunny shorelines and keeping an eye on what's happening around the bay.

Handcrafted here on Tamborine Mountain, he's now looking for a new home where he can sit back, supervise the room, and quietly steal a bit of attention.

This is what happens when I get my business on... πŸ˜‚

A few weeks ago the workshop was looking fairly respectable. Fast forward through a flock of W***y Wagtails, a handful of Pelicans, experimenting with new paint finishes, and a growing pile of "I'll put that away later" projects... and we've arrived here.

Apparently creativity and tidiness don't always work the same shift. 🀎🐦

The good news is all that chaos means plenty of new sculptures have found their way into the world lately. The bad news is I eventually have to stop creating long enough to figure out where my workbench went.

Time for a clean-up before the next round of ideas takes over. 🧹✨

Does anyone else's workspace mysteriously explode when they're being productive?

Meet Hazel. 🀎

This little Lyre-Bird has been finished in a rich chocolate brown, inspired by the earthy tones of the forest floor and the quiet corners of the Australian bush.

Made from recycled spoons and forks and brought to life with a pearl-coloured eye, Hazel has plenty of character without needing to make a fuss about it.

She’s now available in my Etsy store and looking for a new perch to call home.

πŸͺ΄πŸŒ Some people buy plants.

Poppy likes to admire them.

This little lady has spent most of her time in the workshop wandering from pot to pot, checking on the greenery and generally making herself at home. πŸŒΏπŸ˜‚

With her blush orange glass eyes and cheerful personality, Poppy looks perfectly suited to life amongst houseplants, garden beds, and sunny patios.

Handcrafted from recycled cutlery and completely one of a kind, she's now looking for a new place to settle in and supervise the foliage.

You can find Poppy here:

🐌❀️ Every street has one...

The person who knows what's going on before anyone else does. πŸ˜‚

Around here, that's Mabel.

With her translucent red eyes and watchful gaze, she's already completed several laps of the garden, inspected the pot plants, and formed a few opinions about the state of things.

Handcrafted from recycled cutlery and full of personality, Mabel the Neighbourhood Watch is the latest little character to leave the workshop and start looking for a place to call home.

If you've got a garden that could use a little extra supervision, Mabel might just be your girl.

🐌😎 Some people call it being unproductive.

Barry prefers to call it "taking it easy."

This little bloke has spent most of the day doing absolutely nothing in particular and seems pretty happy with that arrangement. πŸ˜‚

With bright blue glass eyes and a very relaxed outlook on life, Barry the Bludger has officially crawled out of the workshop and is looking for a new place to put his feet up.

Handcrafted from recycled cutlery and full of character, he's now available in my Etsy store.

πŸŒβ˜€οΈ Ever walk into a room and completely forget why you went there?

Murray gets it. πŸ˜‚

This little bloke seems permanently distracted by whatever is happening around him. One minute he's heading somewhere important, the next he's admiring a flower and wondering where the afternoon went.

With pale yellow glass eyes and bright blue pupils, Murray has just wandered out of the workshop and is now looking for a place to call home.

Handcrafted from recycled cutlery and packed with personality, he's ready to brighten up a garden, bookshelf, office, or wherever he eventually remembers he was heading.

πŸŒπŸ‘€ Some snails like being the centre of attention.

Wally isn't one of them.

He's more the type to find a comfortable spot, settle in, and quietly keep tabs on everything that's happening around him. πŸ˜‚

With his deep maroon eyes and bright blue pupils, Wally has just emerged from the workshop and is already looking like he knows something the rest of us don't.

Handcrafted from recycled cutlery and full of personality, this one-of-a-kind little character is now available and looking for a new home.

You can find Wally waiting patiently here:
