BOOK LAUNCH – SUNDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2026

Under the Greenwood Tree is delighted to host the Calanthe Press launch of David Terelinck’s second free verse poetry collection, ‘The Book of Souls’, on 15 November 2026 at 2:30pm.

David Terelinck is a Gold Coast poet notorious for holding words hostage on a page until they agree to become a poem. On the odd occasion, a ransom is paid to him in prize money.

He has published an extensive number of tanka in anthologies and journals worldwide and has co-edited on several tanka anthologies. His free verse has won, placed, and listed in many Australian and international competitions. David has been a frequent judge of tanka and free verse poetry competitions over the years.

David’s first collection, ‘Small Epiphanies’, was published by Calanthe Press in 2024.

A lover of gin & tonic and long beach and rainforest walks, David feels we need more poetry less politics and firmly believes dolphins should be running the planet.

‘The Book of Souls’ will be launched by Brent Cantwell, a New Zealand-born poet who writes, teaches and lives with his family in the hinterland of Queensland’s Gold Coast. His work has been published in Australian Poetry Journal, Poetry NZ, Landfall, Jacaranda Journal, Westerly Magazine, and Takahe. His first poetry collection, ‘tether’, was published by Recent Work Press in October 2023.

‘The Book of Souls’ brings us poems that travel from the wreckage of a fractured world through the quieter terrains of grief and illness, and then into unguarded eros (Jane Frank).

Honest, compassionate and fair-minded, David Terelinck pens poetry with darkness and light with an even-hand (Kathy Kituai).

A profound humanist, David crafts stories that even in their darkest moments are tender and not without humour. A confessional poet in the best sense, the result is poetry honest, courageous, and open (Damen O’Brien).

Following the launch David will be in conversation with a member of the Calanthe team, there will be time for Q&A, and David will be signing copies of ‘The Book of Souls’. Do join us for a stimulating afternoon of poetry and conversation.

RSVP to Janene Gardner at Under the Greenwood Tree: [email protected]

Under the Greenwood Tree also stocks the full range of Calanthe Press poetry titles, as well as a wide range of other classic and contemporary poets from around the world.

It is " Love Your Bookshop" day today, Saturday October 10th.

And we want to thank you for all the love. We would not be here without the support of our customers and friends. Thank you, it means a lot.
As a thank you we are offering 15% off all books purchased today.

LYBD is the Australian Booksellers Association’s annual national campaign celebrating local bookshops, booksellers and the important role they play in communities across the country. This year’s campaign theme, ‘Ask a bookseller. Shake up your shelf.’ shines a spotlight on the everyday bookshop conversations that help readers discover new authors, unexpected favourites and books that stay with them long after the final page.

The Australian Booksellers Association are also running a competition to win a $1000 gift voucher to be used at your favourite bookshop. Entry details below
https://loveyourbookshop.org.au/competitions/win-a-1000-love-your-bookshop-gift-card/

We are also running our own competition to win a $100 gift voucher for your entry into our top 100 Australian Books competition. We want to find out what our customers read and then compare to Radio Nationals top 100 book survey.

Drop in browse the shelves ( they are overflowing at the moment), and because we are not just a bookshop - but an Art Gallery, enjoy the latest exhibition of Pit Fired ceramics by Mic Eales. It is beautiful. What better way to spend a Saturday .
