It has taken us a little while to truly absorb and reflect on the incredible week we spent with Sridevi Nrithyalaya (SDN) and Dr Sheela Unnikrishnan, Smt.Shobha Korambil.
Bringing SDN to Australia was a journey initiated by SSD and one that took an enormous amount of planning, persistence and work behind the scenes to make possible. We were incredibly proud to welcome them to Sydney and to lead their Australian tour.
For our students, the experience went far beyond learning choreography. The interactions, conversations, corrections and opportunity to observe Dr Sheela Unnikrishnan, Shobha Akka and the SDN dancers at close quarters challenged and inspired them, bringing a new depth to their understanding of discipline, detail and artistry.
Our workshops brought together SSD students and dancers from other dance schools, creating a truly special space for learning and exchange. Beyond learning choreography, the dancers gained so much from observing the precision, discipline, musicality, expression and attention to detail that are such hallmarks of SDNโs training. It was equally wonderful to see students from different schools learning alongside one another, united by their shared love for Bharatanatyam.
It was also a true honour for our SSD students to share the Sydney stage with the SDN dancers, an experience and memory we know they will carry with them for many years.
And to then sit back and watch SDN bring AINDHU to life on the Sydney stage was an absolute treat and a beautiful culmination of a very special week.
We were also delighted to gift the SDN team a specially designed tour T-shirt featuring Aboriginal artwork, a small keepsake from their time in Australia and a celebration of this special journey.
Sharing a few photos from a week of learning, artistry, connection and growth that we will treasure for a long time to come. โค๏ธ๐๐ฝ๐งฟ
