We’re incredibly proud to share that Teatro at the Italian Forum has been nominated for TWO awards in the 2026 7NEWS Community Achievement Awards NSW/ACT!

🏆 Sharpe Bros Business for Good Award

🏆 Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Small Business Community Ally Award

When we opened Teatro, we wanted to create far more than a theatre. We wanted to build a home for artists, audiences and our community. A place where people could come together, where new work could be created, where artists could train and perform, and where live theatre could thrive.

To have that work recognised in two categories means an enormous amount to Andrew and me, particularly because both awards celebrate the impact a business can have on the community around it.

Teatro is only just over a year old, and what has happened within these walls in that time has been extraordinary. None of it happens without the artists who trust us, the audiences who walk through our doors, our incredible team, and the community that has embraced Teatro from day one.

We’re incredibly grateful for these nominations and very proud of what we are building together.

One year ago today, Teatro opened its doors for the very first time.

What started as a dream has become something far greater than we ever imagined. A place where stories are told, artists are celebrated, careers are nurtured, and our community comes together.

In our first 365 days we’ve proudly welcomed:

📚 1 book launch
🎭 3 seasons of THEatreBRIDGE
🌟 1 season of THEatreBRIDGE Kids & Teens
❤️ More than 18,000 audience members

But the numbers only tell part of the story.

Behind every performance has been an extraordinary team of artists, musicians, crew, technicians, creatives, volunteers, staff and supporters who have poured their hearts into making Teatro what it is today. And to every audience member who has walked through our doors, laughed, cried, applauded and believed in what we’re building, thank you.

Creating an independent theatre in today’s world isn’t easy, but this first year has proved just how important spaces like Teatro are. Spaces where artists can create, audiences can connect, and new stories can find a home.

To everyone who has been part of our first chapter, thank you for believing in us.

Here is to everything we’ve achieved together and to an even bigger second year.

Bugsy Malone opens at Teatro this October.

Directed by Frith Horan, choreographed by Siena Bucknall, and with musical direction by Andrew Bevis, this exciting new production stars the incredible performers of THEatreBRIDGE Kids & Teens in a fresh, energetic take on the beloved musical.

Set in the world of 1920s gangsters, Bugsy Malone is packed with unforgettable songs, larger-than-life characters, humour, heart and plenty of splurge!

Featuring a full live orchestra performed entirely by young musicians for the very first time, this is a celebration of the future of Australian theatre and a production not to be missed.

We honestly don’t know how to say thank you.

To every performer who gave their time and talent, every volunteer who kept us going through the night, every guest who joined us, every person who watched, shared the livestream or made a donation... thank you.

Our first 24 Hours for Teatro was something we’ll never forget, and that’s because of this incredible community. Your support reminds us why creating opportunities for Australian artists and making live theatre accessible is so important.

If you were planning to donate but haven’t had the chance yet, our Australian Cultural Fund campaign is still open. Every dollar goes directly towards supporting Teatro and the work we do for our community.

With just one day left of the financial year, we thought we'd share our Australian Cultural Fund donation link one last time.
It's no secret that it's a challenging time for live theatre in Australia, and the industry needs positive, sustainable ways to grow.
At Teatro, we're trying to be part of that future.
For those who don't know us, Teatro is an independent theatre company and home to THEatreBRIDGE, our training and development programs for emerging performers. Alongside producing high-quality, affordable musical theatre, we're creating opportunities for Australian performers, creatives and young people through our productions, our Kids & Teens program, and new pathways into the arts.
Nathan and I have put everything we can into making this happen because we genuinely believe these opportunities should exist. We believe Australian artists deserve places to train, perform, create and build careers, and we're committed to continuing that work.
