This mural captures the essence of Tây Nguyên culture, from stilt houses and coffee trees to the sun deity and lush highland landscapes, reimagined for Ban Mê, one of the few Vietnamese restaurants in North Canberra. It celebrates the unique mountain flavours and traditions of the region.

Remember the Bearbrick-themed mural I did for Replay Bar in Bankstown? Here’s a look back at the original concept that came before it.

The brief was to highlight some legendary icons: Bruce Lee, Tupac, Kobe, Tipsy, Marilyn Monroe, and my role was to give it a fresh, energetic visual twist that fit the brand’s vibe.

I had a blast playing with sci-fi elements and dynamic lines, but in the end, the design felt a bit too quirky and masculine for the space. So we shifted toward something softer and more playful instead.

Still, one part of the concept lived on: Marilyn Monroe as a DJ! She made it onto the final wall.

Not every pitch makes it, but every project teaches something. Still proud of this one.

Hey, it’s been ages since I worked on a homeland-inspired piece for a restaurant, but ‘Nang Ganh’ gave me that chance again at the Vietnamese community Sanctuary in Sydney, Canley Vale - Cabramatta. This project holds a special place in my heart because having the family by my side, with Mom and Dad pitching in big time after traveling a long way for a family reunion. Big shoutout to Hoan Dinh for being patient and incredibly supportive throughout the process! Fingers crossed for ‘Nàng Gánh’ to rock the Aussie food scene!
