Last week saw epic performances night after night as more incredible artists took to our stages for Vivid LIVE! 🎶

kwn delighted fans with new music, who were on their feet from the very first note. Flying Lotus transported our Joan Sutherland Theatre into another dimension with a visually stunning set unlike anything we've ever seen. Sparks were flying as Sparks took to the stage, playing music from across their career as they carried fans with them through epic tales and equally epic songs. ZIPPORAH and Mi-kaisha lit up our Utzon Room with velvety smooth tones and soulful sounds alongside some very special guests.

Feeling the FOMO yet? Dry Cleaning brought their unique blend of art-rock to the stage for good vibes all round. Khamari set up a beautiful show that had standing ovations to spare, surprising fans with a meet and greet afterwards as well!
And if you weren't sure you had enough energy to make it to the end of Vivid LIVE TR/ST had plenty to spare, with bouncing beats and synth-pop goodness that had the crowd on their feet. There's only two more nights of to go!

Vivid LIVE 2026 is officially here and the weekend vibes are still going strong! 🎶

Friday saw our stages burst to life as King Stingray brought some surf rock excellence to the Concert Hall with a mesmerising set to help kick off Vivid LIVE! Meanwhile Jeff Mills celebrated the 30th anniversary of his Liquid Room Mix by turning the Studio into the hottest club in Sydney with epic crowds for two huge nights!

Saturday brought beloved Scottish four piece Mogwai to our Concert Hall to celebrate their own 30th anniversary with a compelling show that transported fans through the decades with epic beats and earth-shaking crescendos.

Sunday saw Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE hype up the crowd with tracks from their recent collab album, while Current Joys surprised fans with not only classic tracks but also some amazing new songs from their unreleased album!

And that's just some of what went down - with 9 more nights of still to come, weeknights have never looked better! 👏

As part of Vivid Sydney, experience the Lighting of the Sails: ‘Opera Mundi’ by Yann Nguema, with animation by Anima Lux and score by Mischa Blanos.

Renowned French multimedia artist Yann Nguema, known for his mesmerising projections onto significant buildings around the world, brings his unique fusion of science, music and computer programming to the Sydney Opera House sails. This breathtaking original commission is a powerful ode to transformations in nature and the landscape — land, sea, and sky — that inspired Opera House architect Jørn Utzon.

Commissioned and presented by Vivid Sydney and Sydney Opera House. Generously supported by the French Embassy in Australia.

The Monumental Steps were transformed into a canvas for Art on the Steps last month. 🎶

Mel O’Callaghan’s Live Echo combined the hidden frequencies of the Opera House with the human voice, as three hundred choristers from the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs gathered on the Monumental Steps.

While under the steps, Frances Barrett’s Celia gathered vocalists to exchange calls and echoes. They reflected on sound becoming a way to hold loss and remembrance.

It was wonderful to see the building, a work of art in itself, combine with artists to create something truly special.

Thank you to our Idealist donors, Andrew Cameron AM and Cathy Cameron, for their support of this project.

Meet our very special mother-daughter duo this Mother’s Day.

Glenda and Krystal have shared more than 13 years working together under the sails at the Sydney Opera House. Glenda is the Operations Manager in our Contact Centre, while Krystal is our Program Manager, Marketing Technology. Krystal is also coming up on an incredible 20 years at the Opera House, having started her journey in our Box Office and Ticketing teams.

When asked the best part about working together, they both said it’s being able to bounce ideas off each other every day. Glenda also describes Krystal as her “personal IT help”, a pretty handy person to have around.

Across the years, they’ve shared countless memorable moments together at the Opera House. One standout was seeing Oprah Winfrey on the Forecourt. These days, they’re creating a new generation of memories, bringing Krystal’s children along to experience performances under the Sails too.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mums, grandmothers, mothers-to-be, chosen mums, and those we hold in our hearts today 🌸

Psst… want to read our diary?

The National Library of Australia has digitised our discontinued printed newsletters, containing our performance history from 1973 - 2002.

Mailed to subscribers, it was how people discovered what was on.

It’s a fascinating look back in time, with some curious fun facts.

Did you know a guided tour used to cost 50c? Or that we had a cafe called Café Mozart?

Our House set sail this school holidays, not across the Harbour - but through time and space!

Erth's Dinosaurs saw history come alive as never before, with ancient creatures stepping onto the stage (and some in the audience too!) 🦕

We discovered some incredible facts about these giants and the world they lived in - did you know that long before dinosaurs appeared, giant insects ruled the Earth? During the Carboniferous period, oxygen levels were so high that dragonfly-like creatures grew to the size of eagles!

Straight from Spain came Univers, a beautiful work for babies, where live music, dance and poetic storytelling combine in magical and unexpected ways - creating a playful and sensory experience like no other.

Last weekend, we gathered under the sails at sunset for a collective moment as Mel O’Callaghan and Frances Barrett transformed the Monumental Steps into a living instrument 🌄

Mel O’Callaghan harnessed 300 voices from the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs conducted by Brett Weymark OAM plus four life sized tuning forks, turning architecture and human breath into a resonant force. Beneath the steps, Frances Barrett gathered seven vocalists and improvisers conducted by Jo Fabro in an exchange of calls and echoes, unfolding as a meditation on loss, memory and connection.

Curated by Former Senior Curator, Contemporary Art, Micheal Do.

Thank you to our Idealist donors Cathy & Andrew Cameron AM for their support of this project.
