Thank you to everyone who joined us for a spectacular, sold-out weekend of Last Night of the Proms, celebrating WSO’s 60th Birthday! 🎉

Across two sold-out houses, audiences were treated to an incredible musical feast, with all the traditional Proms favourites alongside an exhilarating programme featuring Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Eric Coates’ stirring Dambusters March, Tchaikovsky’s iconic 1812 Overture, and a moving tribute to Percy Grainger. It was a wonderful blend of tradition, celebration and great orchestral music.

Conducted by our inimitable Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, Nicholas Milton, the concerts were a joyous celebration of music, community and the extraordinary spirit of the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra.

A very special feature was our massed choir, the largest choir ever to appear at The Concourse, with the Willoughby Symphony Choir joined by Avalon’s Big Sing and River City Voices from Parramatta. Adding yet another spectacular dimension, the Willoughby Band performed from the rafters, helping to make this one of the largest-scale events in the 60-year history of the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra.

And, of course, our musicians looked every bit as fabulous as they sounded, dazzling the stage in a spectacular array of colourful gowns and adding to the festive atmosphere.

The countless standing ovations and extraordinary warmth from our audiences made this a truly memorable way to celebrate 60 years of WSO. Thank you for being part of it and for sharing in this very special occasion with us.

And if you were astonished by the sheer power of our massed-choir performance of Verdi’s Anvil Chorus, you won’t want to miss our 2027 Special Concert, Opera Gala, in August. By popular demand, exceptional violinist Rosa Donata Milton returns to the stage for an evening celebrating the magic of opera, bringing her extraordinary artistry once again. Featuring much-loved arias performed by singers from Pacific Opera and magnificent choruses performed by our massive combined choir, this concert promises to be another unforgettable musical experience.
