ÉPURE - STUDIES IN GRAPHITE
Daniel McMahon Solo Exhibition

OPENING TONIGHT! – Friday 28 August, 6-9pm 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Sydney-based artist Daniel McMahon presents épure - Studies in Graphite, an exhibition bringing together two interconnected bodies of work that explore graphite as both medium and subject.

Working exclusively in graphite, Daniel's practice moves between large-scale figurative drawings and abstract graphite fields. In the figurative works, the body is rendered with precision and restraint, suspended in moments of quiet tension. Drapery becomes atmosphere, while light emerges through processes of erasure and accumulation. Alongside these works, the abstract graphite fields dissolve form into surface, creating dense, contemplative spaces that sit between image and absence.

Shown together, the works trace a progression from void to form to presence. Through reduction, repetition, and the physical properties of graphite itself, épure considers what remains when image, narrative, and gesture are stripped back to their essential elements.

Positioning graphite not as a preparatory medium but as a resolved and complete form, Daniel's work reflects an ongoing commitment to clarity, restraint, and the quiet architecture of light.

Due to overwhelming demand, The Strokes: ‘Is This It’ 25th Anniversary is getting an extended run in August. Presented by Behind The Gallery & Marshall

Many were left disappointed when we couldn’t accommodate everyone at last week’s one-night-only event, so we’re bringing the full exhibition back, bigger and extended, featuring unseen and iconic photography by lifelong Strokes friends Cody Smyth & Colin Lane.

There’ll also be competitions on the night and drinks from Young Henrys & Heaps Normal • Non-alcoholic craft beer.

AFTER DARK - Bruno Valente Solo Exhibition

OPENING DRINKS TONIGHT 6 - 8PM
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

After Dark is a psychological surrealist collection that explores vulnerability, spiritualism and mystery. Inspired by the Renaissance and early surrealist movements, the paintings combine classical draftsmanship with dreamlike imagery to create worlds that exist between reality and the subconscious.
The night becomes a metaphor for the hidden parts of ourselves, where fear, curiosity, faith and transformation coexist. Rather than telling a single story, each painting invites viewers to bring their own experiences and interpretations, encouraging reflection instead of certainty.

After Dark is an invitation to step beyond the familiar and into the unknown, where symbolism, emotion and imagination meet.
