Joined live session earlier about inks and nibs and thought I'd check my stuff to see if I chose the right onesπŸ€£πŸ™ˆ.
As for the inks, I remember some criteria: waterproof/ water-resistant, lightfastness, archival and pH. So far my inks, as per the details on the bottles, are waterproof and lightfast, which are a good thing. I forgot what archival's aboutπŸ€£πŸ™ˆ. Nothing's also written about pH and expiration datesπŸ€”
As for the nibs, I'm pretty sure I need to replace this one (Nikko G, 2nd picture). If you can see the thin space in between the tines, that's a sign. .

This is how I remember Uncial letters are written. I remember when I was in gradeschool, I would go through my older sister's things without her knowing and take her old Speedball book. I would look through the pages and copy alphabets using a Pilot broad pen, just copying how tall or short or fat or thin the letters are. Back then, I didn't have any knowledge of proper guidelines (what guidelines?🀣) I would only write two lines, the baseline and the height line so that I would know at least where the ascenders and descenders go (I didn't even know they were called like that). Neither do I have knowledge of nib widths, nib heights, spacing or whatsoever. I just write and write and write. I can say that growing up this used to be my favorite type of script as I finish off titles and frontpages of my highschool projects with this script
Excuse the inconsistencies in spacing and lettetforms. There is so much I need to learn from this script. Need to research and practice moreπŸ™ˆ

How do you write your guidelines during calligraphy practice? I write mine using these calligraphy rulers I got from and have been using it literally everytime I sit down to practice.
These so called Line Repeaters are so efficient and easy to use they have become my go-to ruler for writing guidelines. It has guides for marking different x-heights printed on the sides of the ruler and can be used to write multiple lines at once without the hassle of lining up your paper line by line using the conventional ruler. Similarly, you can also write multiple slant lines of different angles, which means you can use it for any script like Copperplate, Spencerian, Italic, etc. You can also use it for envelope addressing as it has guides to mark the centers of various sizes of envelopes.
For more info, checkout , they have a new version of these Line Repeaters which are more handy than the ones I own. Happy lining! 😊😁
