Jess Husband - photography retrospective

Jess Husband - photography retrospective Jess Husband - a retrospective I graduated in Design & Photography from the Arts Institute, Bournemouth in 1995. Enjoy my retrospective!

Following several years travelling the world, I entered the world of photojournalism in 2003, starting at the Southern Daily Echo newspaper in Hampshire. Finally I had found an outlet for my love of news and documentary photography - I was hooked! My decision to move to Australia at the end of 2004 took me on a new kind of journey - a long foray through Australasian immigration systems for several

years - while continuing to forge ahead as a freelance photojournalist any which way I could. I have worked extensively in the media industries of the UK, New Zealand and Australia and have been based in Sydney for 7 out of the past 8 years. I am using my experiences to take me in a new direction as a documentary photographer. Over the past decade, most of my personal work has not seen the light of day, so after many requests to see my work I've organised this page.

RIP Tom Uren - former deputy leader of Australia’s Labor party and minister in the Whitlam government. I photographed Mr Uren 10 years ago for the Inner West Courier. He was a very reluctant subject on my arrival and well and truly put me through my photographic paces for the hour I spent with him. When we settled on his portrait as a backdrop he mellowed and told me about some of his past experiences. He was a fascinating man. As a newbie to Australia and its politics back then I didn't know just how important he was. http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2015/jan/26/flags-to-fly-half-mast-passing-labor-elder-tom-uren

And finally I'm back! It's been a very long hiatus from this page which started with me having an op then heading overseas and back. It continued on until my friend Richard asked me to photograph him for his Time Twins project. We're very proud that his story was picked up by the Sydney Morning Herald along with my imagery; so even though it's only as retrospective as last Thursday, I thought I would share it with you anyway.

Monorail, monorail, monorail...farewell to Sydney's monorail which closed yesterday after 25 years of service. Here's a shot I took on a gorgeous sunny day soon after I moved to Australia.
