※ ※ FIJI INDEPENDENCE DAY ※ ※

Today we remember the journey our forefather's took to build the foundations of what was to become the Fiji we know today. We cannot forget the many sacrifices they made for us and the path that was paved for us all. Through this difficult political climate and the many challenges we face as a nation we are still hopeful that Fiji will be a prosperous and generous land for all in the future.

We are forever grateful for the rich culture and tradition we stem from and to which we continue to express through the artform of Fijian Meke. It is this artform which continues to remind and connects us to our ancestors.

"For Fiji, ever Fiji, let our voices sing with Pride"

Happy Fiji Day!

"Such is its power that in the olden days, it had power to divide the land and its people. Once presented, it has the ability to forgive transgressions and solve differences. The tabua has the power to declare war and was an important item used for treachery in order to gain sides."

THE tabua/kamunaga (whale's tooth) is the most important item in the iTaukei custom. The item is of great importance to the indigenous Fijian.

Kinikinibua, is the traditional ceremony of naming a child in the village of Naqelewai, Nabobuco in Naitasiri. Usually this ceremony is done for the eldest ~ the first born of the family.
