Today is world environment day and the focus this year is on air pollution.
When you think of air pollution burning fossil fuels, exhaust fumes and CO2 emissions are the first things that come to mind, but pollution from plastic also affects the air we breathe.
When plastic is produced, it’s made from toxic materials such as phthalates which is a chemical added to plastics to make them softer and more pliable. Think kids chew toys, bendy straws, carrier bags, cling film... the list is endless!
The problem with phthalate is that they are not chemically bound to the products, so they’re easily evaporated into the air. That new “plastic” smell is the smell of toxic and harmful chemicals off-gassing. Not something you want to inhale on a regular basis, but we do. Everyday. And we aren’t even aware of it.
We have created a world littered with plastics and today is the day to come together and say No to new plastics and help figure out what we are going to do with all of the waste plastic clogging up our oceans, killing marine life and piling up in landfill! This problem can no longer be ignored so let’s start to find creative solutions. Our event starts today and is a small step in the right direction so come join us from 6pm and !! Be inspired by the artists, musicians, brands and designers who have taken up the challenge to fight against plastic pollution and find out how to modify your approach to plastic consumption.
