It’s a true saying…There’s never a dull moment in theatre!
Following a recent snowboarding accident, David Lang, our wonderful MD is unable to play for us!🏔️🏂🫣🤕 Don’t worry - he will be fine, but just needs some healing time for bones to knit 🥰 In the midst of everything else, David kindly took the time and used his many talented musical contacts to organise a fabulous new pianist for us! Talk about dedication that’s ‘above & beyond’! Thanks David 🥰
So we’re pleased to now introduce…
D2’s new Accompanist: Aiden Smith
Aiden is a composer with a growing portfolio of theatre credits as a performer, musician, and Music Director. Having recently Music Directed City of Angels and Jekyll and Hyde with Hornsby Musical Society, Aiden is a multi-instrumentalist who has played both keys and guitar in musicals including 9 to 5 (SYMT, 2026), Be More Chill (MacMS, 2025), American Idiot (PACA, 2024) and Carrie (Ignite, 2023).
He has also amassed recent onstage credits with: HMS as Doody in Grease (2025), Tiny Tom in Urinetown (2024) and Favorite Son in American Idiot (2023), a show which he is eternally grateful to Music Director David Lang for accepting him in despite singing the first line of his audition in the wrong key! Away from the stage (kind of), Aiden is studying music composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and last year co-wrote and orchestrated ‘Bonny and Read’ , an original musical which premiered at Qtopia Sydney in October. He is excited to be joining the D2 community, in what will be his seventh music production alongside David Lang.
We are beyond grateful to Aiden for stepping in last minute to accompany us, after David’s mishap! As well as coming to our aid, it’s been great to know Aiden and get to work with another talented musician. Welcome to the D2 Fam Aiden!
