2 LIONS, And a World to Conquer...

In mid 2012 Laura Vella and Penny Pettigrew joined forces. Already accomplished musicians these two girls cam together by chance and from the first song played knew they were onto something different, something unique and something that could capture an audience and remind them exactly why they love music! Here's a litte of the good stuff....

PENNY PETTIGREW

Penny has had valuable performance experience, spanning the last ten years. Having graduated from Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, Talent Development Project and recently returning from America as one of 20 vocalists to take part in the exclusive Yale Cabaret Conference, Penny is to say the least, a passionate performer, who loves nothing more than exploring melodies and touching the hearts of her audience. The belt on this girl must be seen to be believed. LAURA VELLA

Laura (lead guitar) has spent the last decade honing her unique sound and performance repertoire. Playing and recording with a range of Sydney and Melbourne based artists in that time. Noted amongst many as one of Sydney's most talented female guitarists, Laura plays with extreme conviction and strength like you've never seen before. Whether in duo, trio or full band format Laura V maintains the backbone and strength of Larger Than Lions.

Hello friends!! it’s Penny here 🥰
It’s been a hot minute since we’ve jumped on and updated you with what we’re doing but if you’ve seen some of our stories you’ve probably put it together. Haha
Last year, I left the lovely shores of Sydney, boarded Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady and introduced the beautiful people on there to the LTL way 😍 Welcome to all our new followers from these adventures!
We did 3.5 months around Europe and had the most incredible time meeting wonderful people, playing amazing gigs onboard and exploring fabulous ports 💃

I then moved to London for three months but I couldn’t stay away, Virgin offered us another contract and I couldn’t wait to set sail again. We rejoined the VV family on Feb 21st in Miami and will be sailing on The Brilliant Lady until September 19th. We were meant to be finishing on July 23rd but we’ve just been extended! Yay! 💃

I’ve put together some highlights from the last contract and will post some more from this one as we keep sailing and playing our hearts out!

Thank you to the sailors who saw us on Scarlet last year and came back to visit us this year, this means more than you know!! And thank you to all of our new followers, every show, every hug, every smile, every moment with you brings us sooooo much joy! We really do have the best job in the world 🥰

And lastly, a massive thank you to and who represented LTL with me on Scarlet Lady! All of our gigs were a joy, from our Manor shows, to the runs of the Babs and Billy show and everything in between! Not to mention all the adventures at all the ports! ah what fun we had ☺️🦁

For all of our loved ones back in Sydney who have stayed in touch, thank you, we love you and miss you and you can still head down to Marble Bar every Wednesday night to see jam her heart out with the wonderful under their duo .act.mp3 🥰

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹… 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁… 🥹

*𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗥 — We totally should’ve shared this weeks ago — but honestly, every time we sat down to write it, the feelings were too big and the words felt too small. Social media has never really been our strong point. Playing music always felt easier than posting about it…

As our incredible and always amazing singer Penny sets off to start her next chapter on a 3 month cruise contract followed by a permanent move to LONDON 🇬🇧, it’s time to close the book on our time together as Larger Than Lions 😢

Laura will continue playing gigs here in Sydney and the Marble Bar residency will continue under a new banner.

After 13 life changing years of playing music, it’s officially the end of an era 🦁

13 years ago we found ourselves on a random stage in Newtown playing a few random songs together with no rehearsal — who knew it would turn into over a decade of amazing gigs, residencies, travelling around Australia and abroad, and making so many incredible connections with fans along the way ❤️

We have truly poured our heart and soul into this band and it has given back to us 10 fold!

We’ve been the one constant in each other’s lives through every high and low — and while this chapter is closing, the bond remains strong and our hearts are filled with nothing but absolute gratitude to every single one of you who has ever come to a gig or simply liked a post. Without you, there is simply no Larger Than Lions ❤️

And now, we want to invite you to help us send it off in style —
🎤 Our final show will be on Wednesday 16th July at Marble Bar. This venue is where it really all began, after winning Discovered at Marble Bar back in 2013, when a 10-week residency somehow turned into 13 years! 🥲

It feels only right to close this chapter on the very stage where the story essentially started. We’d love to see your faces there, sing one last chorus together, and celebrate all the magic this band has brought to our lives 💫

This isn’t goodbye forever… it’s just the end of this beautiful, lion-hearted era. 🦁
