May Brit Akerholt "Steal Back Light from the Virtual" - what a title! You have to come and see the play to really understand what a complex, exciting challenging piece of writing this is from the US playwright Caridad Svich. I can't say it better than this quote: “The themes, styles and concerns that shape Svich’s dramaturgy are: a critique of the American Dream and a constant search for home through ... the prism of diaspora and migration; the mixing of rituals and traditional cultural elements from the Americas with global pop culture; obtuse treatment of love and desire; and a poetic and nonrealistic use of language and musical elements. Svich’s characters survive by becoming “professional” nomads. Like their creator, they find themselves at the intersection of identities. As hybrids or transcultural beings, they live in a United States that is figured as the borderlands, a consumer society inhabited by nomads and the dispossessed."

East Coast Theatre Company is a not-for-profit grassroots independent theatre company. The funds raised will go directly to support venue hire, set design and construction, design and promotion, props and licensing, rehearsal space – everything integral to getting the production on the stage. Our aim is to raise $20,000, which will enable East Coast to present a production worthy of the unique and often neglected subject matter this important play addresses.

The production has a brilliant creative team behind it, with an esteemed veteran director in Joseph Uchitel and a wonderful case – a mix of established professionals and young early career actors, all able to hold their own.

East Coast, Joseph Uchitel and the cast and crew are immensely grateful for your generosity and support!

P.S. If you know any philanthropists or organisations who would resonate with this production and could be interested in donating, please share. Thank you all for your support!
