THE JEWISH WIFE by Bertolt Brecht
The dark centre of a compelling triple bill. Brecht's work is a haunting and deeply human portrayal of life under dictatorship.

This is a piece where the full weight of history can be felt in a single suitcase, a single goodbye. Quiet, restrained, yet devastating. It reminds us that history doesn’t only happen in parliaments and protests—it happens in kitchens and bedrooms, between husbands and wives. The moments before everything changes under the pressure of a regime that aims to erase love, memory, and community.

The Jewish Wife is one of a series of playlets first performed in France in 1938 as part of ‘Fear and Misery of the Third Reich’, following Brecht’s exile from N**i Germany. It was one of his first openly anti-N**i plays.
