Trying my hand at gouche again – small snippet of my sketch book. I learnt the hard way that thick gouache sticks to itself 😭 and so some of the tomato ripped unfortunately but I still like how this page turned out – especially the beetroot.

🖋️ 🎨 I need to find some varnish for my sketchbook so my gouache work doesn't stick. Does anyone have any recs? :)

The before and after!
It took about two sketch pieces for me to be confident with this artwork. Some of the sketches have versions behind them as well. Actually, fun fact – the top painting was supposed to be the final one but it seemed really flat and I debated painting a blue sky – overall, I think it adds to the atmosphere and comfy vibe of it all. I also changed the house to pink because the yellow felt like it melted into the scenery too much and a pink house just seemed really fun to me.

I’m so excited to share this artwork! I had a lot of fun going through the motions on this one. I actually spent a really long time working on it and loved experimenting with mixed media — painted in watercolour and finished up in Photoshop (this version doesn't have the photoshopping in it so I will post the final one soon!). I think the outcome turned out really interesting and different!

Would anyone like to see the iterations? I’ve got a few, and I think it’s fun to show how an artist works through the process.

Hello, I’m back!

I’m finally able to share the finished version of these olives 🫒✨ I’m still figuring out gouache — I can never stop fiddling with it. I’ll think a piece is done, then the devil on my shoulder goes, “hmmm, but what if we add a couple more strokes?”… and 20 minutes later, I’m like, “Why did I do that?” 😅

Anyway, it’s such a lesson in letting go, and I’m still happy with how it turned out. Gouache friends, can you relate? 🫠
