Your favourite min-bar residency is BACK. This season, we’re checking in to the Oriental Hotel in Newcastle as part of New Annual Festival.

7 artists have packed their toothbrushes and will be making themselves at home across 7 hotel rooms. Their challenge? Unpack and dream up 7 minutes of heaven, hell, or anything in-between.

A night of site-responsive performances (imagine Sleep No More, but swap out Shakespeare for slippers), Petite Suite invites you to unlock the secrets behind each door, but you’ll only get to experience 5 of the 7 – so which doors will you open?

Kicking off season 10 of The Flying Nun this Friday is Feijão, a lineage of rhythm, labour, and resilience.

Created and developed by Keila Terencio de Paula, Feijão is a physical theatre work exploring cultivation, climate grief, and the enduring connections between food, land, and memory – focusing in on Brazilian music and culture.

Brand X has been supporting Keila’s practice for many years across programs and residencies; most recently she was one of the participants in our Live Arts Residency where she began developing Feijão. It feels only fitting that Keila launches our season with her beautiful new work featuring a powerhouse team:

Did someone say sleepover?

Are you a local, regional, interstate or international artist looking for accommodation while working on a show, in-town for a conference, or flying in for a project? If yes, come stay in our live-work apartment at the City of Sydney Creative Studios!

Up on level 7, the apartment is self-contained, un-serviced and features:
• One bedroom with a queen-sized bed
• Walk-in wardrobe
• Separate living and kitchen area
• Accessible bathroom with a shower
• An adjoining studio with a sink and paint trap

Pricing:
Individuals / collectives - $650 per week
Arts Organisations - $990 per week
Business / large institutions - $1,500 per week

Coming up on July 18!

Join Tokelauan, Uvean, and Fijian storyteller Emele Ugavule in her upcoming Artist-2-Artist workshop: Temporal Sovereignty – Best Practices for Time Design.

Time Design is a creative methodology developed by Emele, which centres on Indigenous Oceanic understandings of time, memory, and storytelling.

In this 3-hour workshop, participants will:

- Develop an understanding of Time Design as a creative framework.
- Explore non-linear and Indigenous approaches to time.
- Strengthen your ability to work intuitively with your body and environment.
- Undertake a time audit and gain tools to apply temporal experimentation and boundaries to your own practice.

This will be our last post about donating to Marrickville Town Hall Basement, we promise! Because, with less than 24-hours left until EOFY this is your final chance to help us open the doors to Sydney’s newest live-music venue, and claim your tax-deductible donation for this financial year.

Help us build our vision to create an artist-centric, inclusive and accessible live music venue and in doing so you will also be contributing to a vibrant and diverse cultural landscape in Sydney.

Currently Marrickville Town Hall basement is just a shell, a construction site, but your donation will go directly towards building this visionary space brick by brick (literally!).

We need $180,000 to open the doors to Marrickville Town Hall Basement. Your donation will really make a huge impact on the success of this project- no matter how big or small.
