🌿 Wednesday Wellness: Embrace the Healing Power of Nature 🌿
Have you heard of Shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of "Forest Bathing"? 🌲
It's not just a walk in the bush; it's a journey of the senses, a balm for your soul, and a path to better physical and mental health. 🌳💚
Since the 1980s, doctors in Japan have been prescribing forest bathing for its incredible restorative effects on our well-being. 🏞️ Research shows that immersing ourselves in nature can lower stress and anxiety, reduce blood pressure, boost mood and confidence, and even support our immune system. 🌞🍃
Exciting news! The University of Wollongong received $1.5 million this year in federal government funding to run a randomized controlled trial – testing if a doctor’s prescription to spend time in nature can actually improve someone’s health. 🌱🏥
Here are some top tips to make the most out of your forest bathing experience:
1. Disconnect from the noise of everyday life. 📵 Silence your phone and be fully present.
2. Leave expectations behind. Set an intention to connect with nature using all your senses.
3. Start by feeling the forest around you. Take deep, calming breaths and tune into your senses. Closing your eyes can amplify the magic: listen to the forest sounds, feel the elements, and savour the scents.
4. Walk slowly, notice every movement, and embrace the stillness of the forest. No need to rush. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to your surroundings.
5. Dedicate 10-20 minutes to sit still (the longer, the better) and become aware of your surroundings. With eyes open &/or closed immerse yourself…bathe in the forest!
6. Connect with the bush (forest) by exploring the trees, a good tree hug feels awesome, touching stones, smelling flowers, and observing other beings that call it home. Follow your instincts.
7. Lastly, this experience is as individual as you are. Silently acknowledge all that it has gifted you. Bring a journal or art book to capture any feelings, thoughts or visions.
Embrace the serenity, recharge your spirit, and let nature heal you. 🌿💫
