Before you write another song
Do these 5 science based non-musical exercises to boost your creativity.
5 IMPROV
Improv helps you create without judgement, boosts mood, social connection and attention.
After improv with Lindsay Drummond () I feel more confident, creative, authentic and present.
4 THERAPY
Therapy helps express your emotions and expand your perspective on life.
Before therapy my life was cold, numb, limited.
After therapy it feels colourful and meaningful.
This improves my lyrics.
I recommend a therapist who has experience in Attachment Science and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).
3 EXERCISE
Exercise improves creative thinking, mental health, energy and focus.
The latest research shows it is as effective as antidepressants.
I’ve been running or lifting weights almost every day since I was 19.
Some of my best songs were written at the gym.
2 MEDITATION
Before I meditate my mind is noisy and chaotic.
After I meditate I feel like the person I want to be - calm, creative and loving.
Meditation increases gray matter in your pre-frontal cortex which means you have better attention, emotion regulation and self control.
1 SLEEP
Sleep is the most powerful and most slept-on creative superpower of all.
It improves creativity, focus, energy, mental health and physical health.
In R.E.M sleep, your brain reorganises and makes new connections - this is literally where creativity is born.
BONUS: NATURE
92% of studies show spending time in nature will reduce your stress, anxiety and depression.
Even just a short walk outside boosts focus, mood and creativity.
