This should go without saying, but right now, we need to say it. Indigenous lives matter. Black lives matter. We stand with you, and commit to operating with anti-racist values, and making conscious choices in the art we make - and the people we make it with - both on and off stage. We have the immense privilege of living and working in a country with a rich and ancient history of storytelling, but the fact remains that we are doing this on stolen land.
As a very new company, we’re defining our future, and a big part of that lies in making a conscious effort not to contribute to the racism which is hugely apparent in the performing arts.
We’re learning, and will continue to do so, because this is far from over and the work is necessarily ongoing.
Linked here is an excellent resource on supporting First Nations people in Australia: www.pathtoequality.com.au
And the Black Lives Matter movement: www.blacklivesmatters.carrd.co
In Australia, 437 First Nations people have died in police custody since 1991, and to this day, the institutions that are told to serve and protect us are held with no accountability.
