Is Super8 & Tab the GOAT non Above & Beyond Anjuna artist? Soooooo many good tracks. Which is your favourite?

Also here is some fun trivia for you!

Super8 - Alba was named because Miika (Super8) had a crush on Jessica Alba

And Super8 & Tab - Elektra? Named of course after every millennial teenage boys favourite - Carmen Elektra

Let me know what you want me to play in the comments below!

Something I love about vinyl records, you ask the producers about them, and they can tell you a story about how they were made, the emotions at the time, early memories from them being played live

I saw a post on Insta the other day commemorating 20yrs since Ocallaghan & Kearney - Exactly. And there was Bryan Kearney in the comments, saying he remembers the moment he was in the crowd hearing Armin play it for the first time ("jaw swinging all over the place" πŸ˜‚

I heard a similar story from Super8, I asked him about one of my favourite tracks and he remembers Armin seeing him in a club in Helsinki, and then playing his remix of Mirco De Govia - Voller Sterne, pointing at him and saying "great track!" 22yrs later he still remembers that moment

These tracks from Way Back When are special. I know they're special to us listeners, they take us back to moments from our early clubbing or festival days, moments with friends and loved ones. But they also mean so much to the people that made them, they put their heart and soul into these early productions.

And we're lucky enough to still hear them today at events like Way Back When β™₯️

I've always prided WBW on not just playing the well known classics. There are plenty of "classics" events for that. I want you to experience the lessor known stuff that was played back in the day.

Maybe not every track was a "classic" that has remained popular for 20yrs, but when you hear them today, it's a brief transportation back in time, giving you a real feel for the era I think

This has always been one of my favourite Anjuna classics, it's the little known "Get Off" by Super8 (no Tab). It was massive for A&B back in the day. Super8 used to make really driving, banging tunes. Check out his Super8 Banging Mix of Time Goes By, for instance

WBW will always be more than just a "classics" set. Sandstorm. 9pm. Adagio. Repeat.

It's trance the way it used to be.

ANNOUNCEMENT TIME! Australia has been inundated with trance internationals recently. So for our next event I've decided to take WBW back to its roots, which is the best Sydney \ Melb locals, playing the absolute best in proper classic trance

For this very special event, we are going VINYL ONLY, so yes we are taking it proper old school this time around

And is there a more legendary collection of vinyl than that of the ANJUNABEATS CLASSICS? I'll be playing you extended vinyl sets of this brilliant label in both Sydney and Melbourne

In Sydney, we have trance royalty JUMPING JACK making his WBW debut, playing a closing set in his infamous Subbies style. We also have another debut, it's Gonzalo from Resonate to open in the courtyard

In Melbourne, we have the equally legendary pairing of local vinyl heavyweights Mike Nichol and King Karim. 2 DJs that need no introduction to proper trance fans

And something else I've noticed, so many trance events recently have been late finishes! So I decided to put on some day parties, Abercrombie Club\Courtyard in Sydney, and Top Yard Rooftop in Melb. Give the people what they want!

Ever since I started WBW I've had the philosophy - put on events I'd want to go to myself.

βœ… Anjunabeats \ Above & Beyond Classics
βœ… The very best local legends
βœ… Get to bed on time

This is proper trance for the proper fans

Tickets on sale tomorrow 12pm

I can't wait to see you there

Had the pleasure of speaking to Dave Dresden from Gabriel & Dresden last night in Sydney. Their tracks have always been some of my absolute favorites; I could've given the poor guy writers cramp if I brought every record of his I own for him to sign, but I just chose a few of the best

We spoke about COVID - my gym where I work shut down, I was just out in the park by myself, and I would put on his 12+hr twitch streams (Club Quarantine), listening to him play and talk all things trance; and it was this strange feeling where even though we had never met, we had a connection through these streams

We also spoke about the stories behind some of these records; one I wanted to bring but was running late for the bus and couldn't find it - No One on Earth (G&D remix). It came about after Dave met Jono from A&B at a club. They had mutual admiration for each other's work - the A&B mix of Madonna, and the G&D mix of Sarah McLachlan - Fallen (which a&b played the vinyl of on TATW001 out of interest). They agreed to do a remix for each other's next track, No One on Earth for A&B, and this one - Motorcycle As The Rush Comes

Top bloke is Dave Dresden. They always say never meet your heroes but I've not been disappointed once when I have. Hopefully we can get him out here for a proper WBW event one day 😊

Back in March I played an Open to Close (OTC) set, the only name on the flyer. Its one of my proudest accomplishments as a local DJ running my own little events, but tbh I've had mixed feelings ever since

Maybe it's imposter syndrome. Or maybe it's my "touch of the tisms" as my wife calls it, that I need everything to be perfect and structured to be happy. But I left the event feeling unhappy, unfulfilled.

I didn't think I gave my best performance. My mixing wasn't as good as I'd like it. Tracks I forgot to play. Tracks I wish I hadn't played. Normally when I'm playing a shorter set, I plan everything to the umpteenth degree. I practice transitions, make sure everything is as smooth as possible, so I can deliver my best. But 7hrs of unknown, I think there were too many variables for my brain

As a side note, I was moving house at the time, I had an unexpected family funeral the morning of the event, and was having daily panic attacks. I think I thought playing DJ that day would solve all my problems. It didn't

I've had a collection of videos people took from the day on my phone, and I haven't looked at them tbh. Haven't been in the frame of mind to do it. And I think scared that others in the crowd had the same impression of the day as me.

But 3mths on, I decided to look in the folder today. This is me playing one of my favorites: Paul Van Dyk - Crush. It always makes me happy. And when I watch this video - I think I look pretty damn happy!

And tbh 3mths later, I do actually have good memories of this event. Some great tracks I played. Some brilliant moments I shared with people. No it wasn't perfect, but it was me, and I've never claimed to anything else. Overall it was a successful day, and I'm proud of how it went

I don't think my next set will be an OTC. I'm not sure when my next one will be, but I'll be better prepared. I think we'll do another classic, locals WBW in September. I just need to think about what sets I want to put on (any suggestions?).

But I'm really looking forward to playing for you again, taking us back to the Golden era of trance which always makes me happy 😊

A little fun fact for you. 3yrs ago I spoke to and asked him if he would be interested in playing a classics set for us. He is one of my all time favourites, I knew he would play the perfect set

His response? "No"

At the time he was heavily focused on his new projects, pushing his new sounds, and I totally respected that

However a few years later I had a chance conversation again, tried my luck again, and this time things had changed.

The story goes, Sean had recently played an event where another former WBW alumni was on the lineup. He heard Steve's set, in his typical classics style and had an epiphany. This classic sound, it's so full of emotion, intricacies, memories... It's the true trance sound. The sound that he loves. The crowd loves. And he realised he wants to play it more

And then not long after that, I approached him for WBW a second time. Perfect timing!

And when you hear the set he played for us (yes it was recorded and will be uploaded very soon!) you will see - Sean has absolutely converted to the WBW way off life, just as his shirt says 😊

I listen to old rave recordings on SoundCloud (follow "rave_on" if you're not already). And I hear this track so often. Armin played it all the time. A&B in their essential mix. It was massive for Tiesto and PVD.

I always wished I could be at those raves. Whether it's Armin Only in the Netherlands, or Cream Amnesia, Space Miami etc, experiencing this epic track live

It's got the best breakdown \ build up \ release ever in my opinion. The driving energy of the intro. The melody is so simple but so perfect. When it finally kicks in during the breakdown, it's like a little wave of ecstasy

This track is classic trance personified. The type of tracks they don't make, and definitely don't play anymore

I've played it a few times in my own sets, but I've never had the pleasure of hearing it live in the crowd, on a big system at any event, arm in arm with my friends, living in that moment

The DJ was
This event is Way Back When Melbourne
The track is Randy Katana - In Silence (Txitxarro Remix)
