Happy Birthday to Richard Strauss.

‘The Alpine Symphony tells the story of the Alps. Anyone who's been there will have been bowled over by the breathtaking expanse of this extraordinary landscape. But wherever there is beauty and grandeur, there's a dark, dark underbelly lying there that's always interesting to find.’ - Simone Young

Experience this invigorating and sharp performance including Strauss’ An Alpine Symphony. Tickets won’t last long.

Sounds like... Gil Shaham performing Beethoven’s Violin Concerto ⭐🌟

Making Gil’s long-awaited return to perform alongside our former Chief Conductor David Robertson, you can experience a concert majestic in scale, flowing with expansive lyricism and colossal architecture. Described as holding a ‘sumptuous and precise’ tone (Chicago Tribune), this command of line and detail makes the turns of these nights unmissable.

Some music just hits different. Elgar's Cello Concerto is one of those pieces.

Written in the shadow of the First World War, it grabs you right from its famous opening chords before taking you on a journey of extraordinary emotion. Join Conductor in Residence Benjamin Northey for ‘Listen to This: Discover Elgar’, as he reveals what lies beneath this century-old masterpiece. With New Zealand cellist extraordinaire Matthias Balzat as soloist, it's an evening for curious minds, whether you're hearing classical music for the very first time or finding out what makes your favourite pieces tick.

Sounds like fate knocking on the door.

We're thrilled to welcome back conductor Anja Bihlmaier after a triumphant Sydney debut in 2024 'that brought the house down' (Limelight). She brings clarity and fire to Beethoven's iconic Fifth Symphony. You know the opening, but the real thrill comes from the unrelenting momentum that follows.

Shaped by memory, connection and Country, this was a performance that moved through scenes of land and light.

From the open skies of Birdsong at Dusk to the storm-driven intensity of Journey to the Edge of the Horizon, master of his craft William Barton creates sound worlds that feel both grounded and expansive. Alongside his mother, the extraordinary Aunty Delmae Barton, the music filled two sold-out performances at City Recital Hall, Sydney and Wollondilly Performing Arts Centre. We feel very fortunate to have been part of it. 🍃✨

Five performances only, with plenty of pre-concert activations to immerse you in the Isle of Berk before the downbeat.

Buckle up, nerds 🤓 We think this might be the world's first alphorn unboxing video. Head Nerd Alastair McKean reckons with what is arguably the orchestra's most aerodynamically challenged instrument. Hear it in action when we perform Strauss' ‘An Alpine Symphony’, conducted by Chief Conductor Simone Young.

Port Macquarie, Armidale, Newcastle, Western Sydney – four stops, thousands of audience members, and one very well-travelled orchestra. Under Benjamin Northey's baton, we performed music inspired by dance, gems of the orchestral canon, and squeezed in Schools Concerts along the way. What a privilege to bring live orchestral music to communities across NSW. See you on the road again later this year! 🎶
