Learning Colour theory is very important in bookbinding restoration because repairs need to blend visually as well as function structurally. It involves understanding hue, value, saturation, so new leather, cloth, paper, or dyes don’t stand out.

In restoration, training your eye to see undertones and match aged materials is key as older materials shift colour through ageing, fading, and oxidation. It’s essential for making repairs look natural and historically consistent.
