In the 19th century, Franz Liszt caused such mass hysteria that a word was born for it: LISZTOMANIA!

Crowds pushed and fought for a glimpse.
Fans collected his cigar stubs and even his coffee dregs.
Souvenirs weren’t merch—they were anything he touched.

So overwhelming was his fame, he was often dismissed as nothing more than a showman.

In the lead-up to our VOCALISZT concert, we’ll be sharing a few lesser-known sides of Liszt.

Thank you to the Instituto Cervantes Sídney for initiating this meeting, where we discussed the choir's future plans as well as our past collaborations with this excellent organisation, dedicated to the promotion of Hispanic culture in Australia and world-wide.

Ayer por la tarde nos reunimos con Margot McLaughlin, directora artística/fundadora del Coro Austral y con David Goodwin, su administrador.

Este fantástico Coro, formado en Sídney, dedica su tiempo a investigar e interpretar música coral ibérica y latinoamericana de los S. XIII al XXI para hacer accesible estas obras, tanto al público hispano, como al de habla inglesa.

Repasamos su próxima gira por España y Portugal en la que interpretarán piezas del Renacimiento español y portugués, barroco mexicano, clásico brasileño y canciones folclóricas contemporáneas de Chile, Argentina y el Caribe.

Yesterday afternoon we met with Margot McLaughlin, artistic director and founder of the Coro Austral, and David Goodwin, its administrator.

This fantastic choir, formed in Sydney, dedicates its time to researching and performing Iberian and Latin American choral music from the 13th to the 21st centuries, making these works accessible to both Spanish-speaking and English-speaking audiences.

We discussed their upcoming tour of Spain and Portugal, where they will perform pieces from the Spanish and Portuguese Renaissance, Mexican Baroque, Brazilian Classical, and contemporary folk songs from Chile, Argentina, and the Caribbean.

We did not forget to discuss our future collaborations with the Institute 😊, which will undoubtedly enrich our cultural offerings with a much stronger choral tradition!
