From 3pm today Vi-Nil Records have an indie music showcase 7th Day Brewery featuring seven bands, including our South Coast favourites The Munks

Also, The Overtones, Tsh*taki, Outer Control, Loose Surface, Blistering Minds and Bu****it Artiste

It’s FREE entry and there’ll be plenty of merch - vinyl, CDs, caps & Tees

We’ve just launched the Brookvale Gig Database (BGDB) on our website - a dynamic community archive of original live music in Brookvale

It features the bands, venues and gigs that shape Brookvale’s sound and musical spirit in a visual record of the local live music scene

Check it out on the brookvaleartsdistrict.org homepage (link in bio). And if you can’t find your favourite Brooky gig help us complete the story by submitting an image and details

Amplifying the Creative Heartbeat - BAD was established in 2020 to support creative innovations and collaborations as well as connect and promote the people, places and projects of our rough-edged, noisy and proudly industrial home of Brookvale

Ben Brown’s Frankie & Bride has long-been our unofficial mascot and represents the unpolished creative soul of Brooky we endeavour to reveal

You can check out with his 11-metre interactive paste-up on Mitchell Road, adjacent the Sydney Water building on the corner of Mitchell and Sydenham

Coastal Community Hub
The McTavish Surfboards store on Harbord Road opened in 2023 as a reflection of Brookvale’s deep roots in Australian surf culture and the return of founder Bob McTavish to the place where it all started for the Australian surfboard industry

The store showcases the full range McTavish surfboards and apparel, from shortboards to signature longboards as well as boardshorts, jackets, shirts and denim – all in one place

Given most of what happens here is conversation and connection about boards, waves and design, the McTavish store is essentially a community hub for people who love well-crafted things and coastal living

Sunday is Funk Day! Free-Flow returns this weekend with another episode of the Sunday Social - Jazz/Funk/Soul Sessions - at 7th Day Brewery

Sound Selector Dave Howell will be making his soulful grooves 2-4pm followed by all-time Funk-Meisters, the Old School Funk Band turning up the heat 4-6pm

Endangered Species Day Brookvale artist Jamiee Paul recently completed an artist residency with the Bob Brown Foundation

This artwork was born from her observations of the work conservationists are doing to help protect black cockatoos and their habitat

During her residency, Jaimee was shocked to learn that four out of Australia’s five black cockatoo species are now classified as either vulnerable or threatened

These majestic birds with their loud and distinctive mournful call need old-growth trees with hollows large enough for nesting. These trees, that take over a hundred years to grow, are being cleared from our native forests at an alarming rate
