The birin birin or birranga (Noongar) is Australia's only bee-eating bird species.

Known more recently as the Rainbow Bee-Eater, these stunning birds can eat up to 300 bees and wasps daily. Nom nom!

Tell me this bird is not one of the best-dressed going around.

The Crested Shrike-tit wears its black, white and yellow with absolute style.

The mohawk crest simply tops off the look.

Other facts about this charming little bird:
🌍 Found in eucalypt forests, woodlands, forested gullies and along rivers in drier areas
🌍 Foraged is tree bark for insects
🌍 Both sexes incubate the eggs and feed the young
🌍 Was common in Sydney Harbour National Park, but has not been reported there recently.

The Chestnut Quail-thrush found mainly across the arid interior of Australia blends perfectly with its environment.

And as a ground-dwelling bird, its mottled plumage is not just fetching but also its best form of defence.

Other facts you need to know;

β˜€οΈ Loves to feed on insects, caterpillars and the occasional seed and fruit
β˜€οΈ Both sexes incubate eggs
β˜€οΈ During the breeding season, male birds court potential partners by singing from daybreak
β˜€οΈ Population is suspectable to land clearing, invasive predators and bushfires.

You'll need a keen eye to spot these birds, so keep an ear out for their 'seeeep' whistle.

This stunning raptor, known as Wugamaabaydaa (Yuwaalayaay) and Wugamaabaydaa (Gamilaroi), is also referred to as the Black-breasted Buzzard.

Slightly smaller than the Waalitj (Wedgetail Eagle), this beautiful and adept hunter is found in arid areas across Australia.

β˜€οΈ Regularly feeds on other birds
β˜€οΈ Threatened by land clearing, climate change, baiting practices and illegal egg collection

Once you take in the sizeable inflated throat sac, you'll hear a loud, deep-roaring noise often mistaken for a lion.

The Blue Petrel is a wonder of biology and strength.

This small seabird can 'run' on water as it takes off into flight.

It can also desalinate its body and protect itself from predators using oil produced in its stomach.

Fricken' cool eh?

The Eastern Yellow Wagtail loves chasing summer. These migratory birds spend the summer in Alaska before making a quick trip to Asia and Australia to escape the northern hemisphere winter.
