• SHOP UPDATE • 10th Dec • 7 PM (AEDT)

This shop update has been a long time coming and I can’t wait to share it with all of you! I’ve been working hard on some new forms as well as refining some older ones until they felt just right so I’d like to thank everyone for their patience 🙏

There’s going to be a stack of nesting bowls, pasta dishes, cups, mugs and a collection of small bud vases which have been a pleasure to make so I can see more of these coming in the near future.

As always, I’ve handmade all of these pots on the pottery wheel and glazed them all with my own unique recipes using raw materials. I’ve also thrown a few new glazes in the mix this time so I hope you like them!

🎄 I only plan on keeping the shop live for a couple of weeks so don’t miss out, especially if these are Christmas presents! 🎁

And before I forget, don’t forget to sign up to my newsletter for an exclusive 10% off discount code on orders over $150 🙌 (link in bio).

SHOP UPDATE - 10th December @ 7PM(AEDT)

I decided to get something work together for a Christmas sale! There’s going to be a whole bunch of bud vases as seen in the photos as well as the usual cups, mugs and bowls.

I’ll be releasing more info in the coming days as well as more photos once I open the kiln tomorrow. Got a few experiments in there so I’m hoping all goes well 🤞

SHOP UPDATE - 31st August (AEST)

This shop update has been a long time coming, so thanks to everyone who has patiently waited 🙏 I decided to wait until I had a larger quantity and variety of work made before launching my shop so I hope there’s enough to go around.. there will be bowls, cups and mugs available in a bunch of different glazes so hopefully there’s something there for everyone. I’ll be sharing more info about the stacking/nesting bowls and the different glazes I’ve been experimenting with in future posts.

The link to the shop will be in my bio or you can visit www.finnleapottery.com

Just finished glazing the bowls for my next firing, now onto some cups and mugs.. I decided to experiment with some brushwork on this new glaze which should turn out a nice warm orange where thin and yellow where thick. You’ll see the results in a weeks time ✌️

Here’s a rutile blue bowl from my latest firing 🙌 I was meant to have a sale a few months ago but decided to make more work so there would be a greater variety to choose from… I’m currently designing some new satin textured glazes which should be ready be the end of next week. I normally have a sale from each full kiln load although this time there will be 4 kiln loads of work available, so there should be plenty to go around! I haven’t decided on a date just yet but there will be more info to come in the next week or so.

Here’s a few gems from the previous firing.. They’ll be up for sale on my website when I find some time to get the online side of things set up! (Photos, descriptions, dimensions etc) so please bear with me 😅

Here’s my blue rutile glaze tested on cups and mugs for the first time! This one worked out particularly well. The glaze is nice and thin which allows the marks of the making process to be seen, not hidden... If you look closely you can see the lines running parallel with the handle made by the pulling process. The finger mark spirals on the inside and the outside of the mug created when the wet clay was spinning on the wheel, and finally the ring at the base of the handle, created while trimming the foot. These are all very small things although I believe every step to be as important as the next.

Here’s another mug shape I’ve been working on lately. Since they shrink around 14% from when they’re made it’s always interesting to see how they turn out once they’ve been fired 🔥 I was really happy with these ones. The handle feels just right 👌

This is the second step I take when glazing bowls.. the reason I do this over several steps rather than dunking it in one go is to avoid the cracks and pinholes that come with the dunking method. The dunking method is fine for thin glazes (usually clear), although interesting glazes like celadon, chun, teadust, copper red, etc, require a thick layer of glaze to achieve any depth. The reason the dunking method created cracks and pinholes is because once the pot is dipped in glaze the clay becomes saturated in water from both sides so it has no where to escape. This results in the glaze falling off the pot or having to be smoothed over by hand a few days later which is actually a lot extra work even though the initial stage is quicker. For those interested in trying this method, I recommend painting wax resist on the rim so the glaze doesn’t pour down the side of the bowl when it is being poured out.
